To mark #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth and as part of our #ThisIsASign campaign, we went to DBS to test awareness levels amongst this younger cohort. 23% of breast cancer cases occur between 20-50 years of age - so this is not just a disease that affects older people. Make sure you know the signs - all 8 of them. #ThisIsASign

About us
Breast Cancer Ireland is a registered charity (CHY19926) established to raise vital funding to support pioneering breast cancer research nationally as well as promoting and raising awareness on the importance of breast health amongst women of all ages Our vision is to transform breast cancer from often being a fatal disease (with 650 deaths annually) to a treatable illness long term. How do we achieve this? Speed of research discovery is critical. If we can speed up our research discovery across all the designated cancer centres in Ireland we will deliver better treatment outcomes of patients. Investment in Research is critical towards advancing this goal. Achievements to date: - Through sophisticated blood test, patients now receive personalised and tailored treatment plans - specific to their own type of breast cancer....it is no longer "one treatment fits all" - We now have 8 designated state of art cancer centres - as opposed to a facility within every hospital in Ireland. This leads to more accurate diagnosis and better facilities for treatment - BCI are funding specialist Breast Research Nurses within these designated cancer centres - whose role is to work collaboratively, profiling patients and collecting tissue samples into one large centralised resource. This in turn allows clinicians and scientists to now avail of much larger sample volumes and help speed up our discovery efforts How do we raise funds: As an organisation, we are non government funded and rely entirely on the generosity of the general public in supporting our annual nationwide raffles; our two main annual fundraising events eg the Great Pink Run (29th August, Phoenix Park) and our Strictly Against Breast Cancer event in the Convention Centre Dublin (Sat 21st Nov); Community supported events & sponsorship, and also as Charity nominees within the corporate sector.
