Universal Access Electric Vehicle Ultra-Fast Charging Services

About us

Applegreen Electric was established as a subsidiary of the Applegreen Group to facilitate the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the critical, heavily travelled highway corridors on which we operate. We provide over 1 million charging sessions per year to our customers. Since our entry into EV charging in 2014, we have rapidly grown and enhanced our services for all types of EV drivers. As a result of our pioneering work in the United Kingdom and Ireland, we estimate that 60 percent of on-highway charging is conducted on our sites. Established in 1992, Applegreen is one of the largest travel plaza operators in the US and Europe, operating approximately 630 sites across the United States, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The business employs over 15,000 employees globally, including over 5,000 in the United States. In the US we are headquartered in New Jersey and currently operate 260 sites across 18 states, owning the concession to a significant majority of rest stops from Delaware to the Canadian border along the Eastern Seaboard, east to west from Maine to Indiana, and we are actively considering additional expansion opportunities nationwide (e.g., we recently expanded to the E-470 Beltway surrounding Denver). Applegreen Electric designs, develops, hosts, maintains, operates, and owns electric vehicle charging stations at our sites. We manage our own charging network, data collection, analysis, and the operations and maintenance of each site we directly operate. While we do not manufacture our own EV supply equipment, we have extensive experience managing DC fast charging infrastructure pre- and post-installation and we have commercial relationships with multiple leading DC fast charging hardware suppliers.

What is EV roaming and why is it important❓ Similar to using your phone on different networks on holiday, EV roaming simply means charging your car at charge points run by different networks using a single payment method. 🚘 This can lead to confusion for non-EV drivers: because shouldn’t that single method just be the tap of a contactless bank card or phone wallet? 💳 Absolutely! Contactless should be the go-to, as it is on all of our charge points. But we know that not all drivers have the same needs- such as high mileage drivers and fleet drivers for whom convenience and simplicity are key! EV roaming is important to facilitate as a charging network because it gives drivers the flexibility to charge in the way that best suits their needs whilst delivering a simple, reliable and enjoyable experience.⚡ Keep an eye out for updates to our roaming partnerships as we strive to increase accessibility of our network for all!
