About us
At Alkermes, we apply our deep neuroscience expertise to develop medicines designed to help people living with complex and difficult-to-treat psychiatric and neurological disorders. We have a portfolio of proprietary commercial products for the treatment of alcohol dependence, opioid dependence, schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder, and a pipeline of clinical and preclinical candidates in development for neurological disorders. Our patient-inspired science, integrated research strategy, sophisticated development capabilities and specialized commercial infrastructure enable us to pursue the development and commercialization of innovative new medicines, including those for people with conditions that have traditionally been overlooked or stigmatized. Our greatest strengths at Alkermes are our people and our inherent empathy for patients, families and caregivers. Neurological and psychiatric disorders strike people at the core of who they are and impact many facets of their lives. We work with urgency to develop new treatment options for people living with these conditions. Beyond our important mission of developing medicines, we believe it is our responsibility to take a holistic approach as we seek to support patients, caregivers and broader impacted communities. We remain committed to patient engagement, responsible and sustainable operations, and equitable access to quality treatment. It's #GlobalDiversityAwarenessMonth, and at Alkermes, we’re emphasizing the crucial role diversity plays in access to substance use treatment. A 2022 Access to Care survey revealed that 24% of individuals who received #SubstanceUseDisorder treatment faced challenges finding a provider who was a good cultural fit. This finding underscores the need for culturally competent care, especially in preventing and treating substance misuse. The Drug Enforcement Administration‘s Get Smart About Drugs’ resource features a valuable panel discussion on how diversity, equity, and inclusion may enhance prevention efforts. https://lnkd.in/emnbptNM

To effectively address alcohol misuse, it’s essential first to understand how it’s defined. For women, alcohol misuse is typically defined as consuming four or more drinks in a day, or eight or more in a week. For men, it’s five or more drinks in a day, or 15 or more in a week. Recognizing these limits may help identify harmful patterns early. The The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) offers a comprehensive resource filled with evidence-based strategies for preventing #SubstanceUseDisorder. #PreventionMonth https://lnkd.in/g88sSrYC

#LGBTQHistoryMonth celebrates 31 trailblazers from the LGBTQ+ community. As we celebrate these pioneers, we are aware that there’s always more progress to be made. When it comes to mental health, LGBTQ+ individuals are 2.5x more likely to seek mental health services than their heterosexual peers, and they often face higher risks of discrimination, shame and trauma. These disparities highlight the importance of culturally competent care and community support. Mental Health America offers valuable insights into these mental health disparities and provides resources to help navigate the journey to recovery. https://lnkd.in/evGwVXr
