THE SOCIAL HOUSE, NAIROBI
The first of a number of our projects in Kenya, The Social House Nairobi is a boutique hotel designed around the rooms of a home. The ‘House’ is predominantly about engagement with guests and relaxed social interaction. Guests arrive in the ‘Living Room’ and have a choice of 83 ‘Bedrooms’ and four F&B spaces.
Meeting rooms named ‘The Garage’ and ‘The Shed’ help to facilitate the lounges as a place for working as well as pleasure.
Working with Areen, we sought to drive the lighting scheme predominantly through the decorative light fixtures with the integrated architectural lighting adding depth to each space.

55 MARKET STREET
55 Market Street is a prominent commercial office tower situated at the bustling intersection of Pitt and Market Street in Sydney. The building's refurbished lobby boasts a stunning design featuring undulating polished brass pendants that reflect warm tones and create a striking visual statement against the stone walls.
As you venture further into the lobby, the lighting design becomes even more dynamic with accent lighting highlighting key features and custom pendants casting abstract shadows around the informal seating areas. This juxtaposition of structured architectural finishes and artistic lighting elements creates a unique and inviting atmosphere for visitors.

HOXTON SOUTHWARK HOTEL, LONDON
Located in the heart of London, The Hoxton Southwark Hotel is a stylish boutique hotel just a short distance from the Thames. Our team was responsible for designing the lighting scheme for this trendy establishment, which offers a range of amenities including dining options, business meeting rooms, a rooftop bar, and inviting public spaces.
The hotel exudes a cosy, home-away-from-home vibe, with decorative lighting playing a key role in creating a relaxed atmosphere throughout. Minimal architectural lighting was needed to enhance the ambiance, allowing the decorative fixtures to shine.

Designing the Senses
On 11th July 2024, we undertook a unique exploration of design, light, and emotions at the Revery Bar, London Hilton on Park Lane, London, UK.
Set in a controlled environment, FPOV in collaboration with KKDC, Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, Stir Creative Collective and Hilton, invited eleven of the world’s best hospitality designers to investigate how changing sensory elements - taste, sound, smell, and touch - affect our emotions. Three very different scenarios were created for the guests to experience.
Scene 01 / Morning
Our journey began with a crisp, cool white ‘sunlight’ of a morning scene, paired with bird songs and a coastal soundscape. The accompanying dish, resembling a traditional fried breakfast, was a clever illusion made from goat’s cheese, mango, watermelon, and rice, crafted to look like bacon, egg, and black pudding. This was complemented by a refreshing blossom tea.
Scene 02 / New York
Next, we transitioned to the vibrant atmosphere of a New York rooftop, complete with an intense urban soundtrack, animated lighting, and bite-sized finger food. By removing cutlery, we heightened the sense of touch, creating a direct connection between the guests and their food. This experience was enhanced by a Whiskey Sour, further immersing guests in the New York vibe.
Scene 03 / Sakura
Finally, we placed our guests in a late-night bonfire scene, accompanied by a traditional Japanese soundtrack and far Eastern-infused desserts. At this point, we requested guests to keep the blindfolds on throughout; this scene was unique as it deprived guests of sight and required them to use chopsticks, intensifying the sensory experience.
We kept the specific themes of each scene a secret, and only afterwards, we discussed the scenes and the emotions they evoked, exploring whether these sensory experiences triggered personal memories.

CENTRAL PARK LOBBY - PERTH
The lighting design for Central Park Lobby in Perth was carefully designed to complement the building's iconic status and sophisticated interiors. The goal was to create a balance between understated elegance and functionality, enhancing the architectural form and highlighting key features.
In the lobby and café spaces, wall washers were strategically placed to showcase the stone-clad core, while LED grazers added textural contrast above the lift doors. Directional downlights subtly enhanced the artwork and seating areas, while floor and table lamps added a human scale to the space.
In the business pods and café, concealed linear lighting and bold pendants were used to create a fresh daytime ambiance, with accent lights providing flexibility for nighttime functions. The collaboration between the designers and architects resulted in a lighting scheme that is elegant, functional, and in harmony with the overall design.

HARDY BROS - BRISBANE
Hardy Bros in Brisbane was designed to create a stunning visual experience for customers. The walls appear as if they were carved out of stone, showcasing the exquisite pieces of fine jewels in a dramatic way.
The lighting was a crucial element in this design, with a focus on creating a strong contrast between the showcase and the jewellery pieces. This allowed customers to fully immerse themselves in the space while being charmed by each item.
The overall design of the space is powerful, with each piece given the opportunity to shine and tell its own unique story. The lighting design, with its strong beams of light, added an extra layer of sparkle and texture to the display.

OPPOSITE HOUSE - BEIJING
Our team was tasked with upgrading the public spaces at the Opposite House in Beijing, collaborating with different designers to ensure a cohesive lighting design throughout. The lobby bar lighting played a crucial role in perfectly transitioning the space from a lounge to a bar, utilising a lighting control system to create preset scenes for day and night.
We integrated light into the perforation panel, sandwiching the light between layers to create a striking feature wall shared with the hotel reception. This detail may seem simple, but it required precise coordination of fixture locations on the wall. We achieved the desired result after creating a mockup to define the lighting effect.
