For 2002, Ducati gifted the 998 the Testastretta motor that had just won the WSBK championship in 996R guise. The new heart was good for 123 hp and 71 lb-ft at the crank, up from 112 and 67, respectively.

What reviewers found most impressive was how quickly the new engine spun up and how compact the complete package was. Motorcyclist said that “overall, this 998 feels more like a 748 that swallowed a really big gulp of nitrous than it does a 996.”

Their review concluded with a simple statement: “Although it inspired Honda RC51s, Suzukis TLs and Aprilias, there’s still nothing in the world quite like the 916, sorry 998, all these years later.”

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB5V82B015789. The seller acquired it in 2009 from National Powersports Distributors in Pembroke, New Hampshire and immediately had it shipped down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. “As soon as I had my grubby little hands on her I took her straight to the Ducati oracle Chris Boy of MotoCorse, there I had the belts changed, oil & filters, BMC filters fitted and a Power Commander 5. They also tuned her on their dyno to approximately 124 rwhp.”

During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 500 miles, “of which the majority were done on the 95 between West Palm Beach and Miami. Due to the nature of my work I haven’t managed to ride her for ten years now, where she has been sitting in storage with Chris Boy.” The seller then had it moved to our shop for storage in October of 2020. The odometer shows 9,521 miles.

It is rolling on Michelin Pilot Power tires with date codes of 3003 and 3808.

The seller states that there are no known mechanical issues. In December of 2020 he had us flush the fuel tank, clean the fuel injectors, install a new fuel pump, and install replacement BMC air filters. In preparation for the listing we fired it up for a running video and noted that the fuel level sensor had failed and was leaking, so we installed a new one as well as a fuel sensor gasket.

The seller now lives in Australia and is selling it as he cannot justify the expense of importing it. Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California, (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Ducati is offered on a clean Florida title.
