Paolo Banchero: 'Seattle is pound-for-pound the best basketball factory in the country'
Paolo Banchero: “Seattle, I think Seattle is pound-for-pound the best basketball factory in the country. When you look at just the depth we have in the history, we got years on years—whether it’s Doug Christie, one of the first OGs, then you got Jason Terry, Isaiah Thomas, Jamal Crawford. You know, the list goes on and on and on from generation to generation, year by year. And, um, I feel like I’m kind of new generation. Both my mom and dad are both from Seattle, so, you know, it’s in my blood, and yeah, I just take it with me wherever I go.” (2:02)
The support was there from a who’s who of Seattle hoops legends. From former Sonics players like Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Detlef Schrempf, Rashard Lewis, Fred Brown, Lenny Wilkens, Dale Ellis, Sam Perkins, and George Karl to Seattle-area hoops legends Jamal Crawford, Isaiah Thomas and Brandon Roy. Think about the numbers alone—and the caliber of those players and the message they’re sending.
Isaiah Thomas on his future as a player: I know what I'm fighting against
Isaiah Thomas, at 35 years old, is not ready to ride off into the sunset just yet. “I just enjoy the process, but I know what I’m fighting against,” Thomas said in August during a lull at his Ninth Annual ZekeEnd Tournament in Tacoma, Washington, where he was joined by Pritchard, Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero, Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson and other NBA luminaries.
“I understand it, but I’ve had that same fight my whole life. This is just normal to me. It’s just another stage I have to get by,” Thomas said. “I really want to just play two or three more years and then focus on my kids. That’s the ultimate goal and we’re just going to keep fighting until the end.”
That’s the reason Thomas continues: all he knows is basketball and how to defy the odds. “I believe in myself more than anybody would,” Thomas said. “I just feel like why not keep going and why not show the world what perseverance looks like, what fighting through adversity looks like. Then being able to do it with a smile on your face.”
Jae Crowder will work out with Sacramento this week
Sean Cunningham: According to sources, free agent forward Jae Crowder will be working out with the Sacramento Kings this week. The 34-year-old veteran was with the Bucks last season. Like last month with Isaiah Thomas, Crowder will join roster players in town seeking on-court competition.

When Isaiah Thomas looks back at the time that he was on top of the basketball landscape, it’s Lakers legend Kobe Bryant that sits most prevalently in his head. He credited the Black Mamba for the preparation they did together during that season, Bryant’s first year of retirement, via the Knuckleheads podcast:
