This past weekend, our Matilda team continued their dedicated efforts to our mission of community support by organising two impactful events for the elderly and minority groups. On 4 October, Matilda volunteers extended warmth and wisdom to an elderly home Forward Living 迎進生活 in Tuen Mun, sharing essential knowledge on safe medication use, including proper dosage and the use of over-the-counter medicines. They also took questions from the seniors on topics such as the side effects of certain drugs and advice on using Chinese and Western medicine. To promote physical health, our physiotherapist led an engaging exercise session that not only helped nearly 20 residents stretch and improve their coordination but also brought smiles and laughter, making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience for all involved. On Sunday, in partnership with Phenomenally Pink, we hosted our second free breast exam drive for foreign domestic helpers to raise breast cancer awareness. The event was a great success, reaching many in need, with 65 helpers participating in the checkups and learning vital breast self-exam techniques. Our commitment does not stop here. At Matilda International Hospital, we remain dedicated to giving back to society by providing care and improving the well-being of the communities we serve. Stay tuned for more updates on our community service initiatives. #MatildaInternationalHospital #CommunityCare #SupportingOurCommunity #CareForTheElderly #BreastCancerAwareness

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's an opportune time to understand the critical role that breast self-exams play in the early detection of breast cancer, which can improve treatment outcomes. Here is a step-by-step guide to performing a breast self-exam: Step 1: Look at your breasts in the mirror • Check the size and shape of your breasts. • Look for any changes or new lumps. • Check your nipples for any discharge, sores, or changes. Step 2: Lie down or stand in the shower • Raise your right hand up and place it behind your head. Step 3: Check your breast • Use three fingers of your left hand to examine your right breast, applying both light and firm pressure. • Starting from the nipple, gently feel all over your breast in a circular motion up to the collarbone. • Check for any lumps or thickened areas. Step 4: Check your arm and neck • Keep your arm raised and feel under your armpit, sliding your hand across the entire area. • Slide your hand across the upper part of your collarbone and the lower part of your neck. Step 5: Repeat the above steps on the other side We invite you to share this crucial information and join us in raising awareness to combat breast cancer effectively. #BreastCancerAwareness #SelfCheck #EarlyDetection #HealthAwareness

This September, Matilda International Hospital and the Matilda Children's Foundation were thrilled to welcome 7-year-old boy Dashnyam from Mongolia, who underwent life-changing hearing surgery in Hong Kong. Referred to us by the Mongolian Ministry of Health through the Consulate General of Mongolia in Hong Kong and Macao, Dashnyam suffered from significant hearing impairments due to congenital ear deformity. The surgery involved implanting a magnetic bone conduction device, a procedure not available in his home country, aimed at significantly improving his hearing. After successful surgery and a week-long recovery at the hospital, Dashnyam has returned to Mongolia, hopeful for a brighter, healthier future. We will ensure ongoing follow-up care and optimise post-surgical outcomes for him. Furthering our commitment, both MIH and MCF remain dedicated to providing essential surgeries for underprivileged children in the region at no cost. • At Matilda International Hospital, we strive to continuously upgrade our services to provide the best care for our patients, enhancing the care experience. Recently, our operating theatre has been upgraded with the addition of a new mobile C-arm scanning device, designed to accommodate large-sized patients. This cutting-edge technology, equipped with a flat detector, significantly improves the quality of X-rays. It supports our medical team in making more informed decisions during surgeries such as orthopeadics and ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography). The new system offers sharper images with more detail, allowing our doctors to see more and make quicker, more accurate decisions during procedures, thereby reducing the time spent on procedures and improving outcomes. With newer technology available, our medical team can focus more on patient care. This upgrade is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure our patients receive the highest standards of treatment.

Yesterday, Matilda International Hospital partnered with Phenomenally Pink, a community organisation dedicated to promoting proactive healthcare in breast and men's health, to host a free breast exam drive targeting disadvantaged communities of Hong Kong. The event was well-received, with 35 participants attending examination sessions led by our medical team. In addition, an educational talk on self-breast examination was provided, equipping attendees with essential knowledge for the early detection and prevention of breast cancer. This initiative marks our first collaboration with Phenomenally Pink, aimed at raising awareness of breast health within disadvantaged communities and disseminating vital preventive information. We are pleased to announce that the event will return on 6 October, extending these crucial services to more individuals. Lastly, we would like to thank all our Matilda colleagues who volunteered to help at the event, contributing to its success. #MatildaHospital #BreastHealth #BreastExam #PhenomenallyPink

  • Today, we're thrilled to celebrate the one-year anniversary of receiving the 'Outstanding Achievement' recognition in the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International EQuIP7 Program, including the Advanced Person-Centered Systems (PCS) Module. A year ago, we set a standard as the first and only ACHS International member to earn this prestigious accreditation, a distinction that remains unmatched to this date. This past year has been filled with continuous innovation and dedication to excellence. Our journey has seen us not only maintaining the exceptional standards that earned us this award but also advancing further in enhancing patient-centred care. The introduction of the person-centred smart room is just one example of how we're pushing the boundaries of healthcare innovation. We're proud to lead the way in quality improvement and patient care. Our team's dedication is the cornerstone of our success, and this achievement reflects our collective efforts to provide the best care possible. Thank you to everyone—colleagues, patients, and partners—for your unwavering support. We look forward to continuing our journey of excellence and innovation for many years to come. #MatildaExcellence #OutstandingAchievement #PatientCentredCare #ThankYou

[Matilda in History] Standing at the Peak in Hong Kong, Matilda International Hospital has withstood typhoons and weathered storms all these years to serve its patients. Next to the main building is an indoor passage known as the 'Typhoon Corridor.' It has been used by our colleagues to safely travel back and forth between the main building and an extension that once housed the maternity unit until 1986. Before that year, our maternity unit was separate from the main hospital building, necessitating the transfer of patients outdoors to the main building for operations, regardless of weather conditions. Nowadays, expectant mothers no longer need to undergo this unusual practice, but the tunnel is still utilised by our colleagues who need to travel between the two buildings during adverse weather. The photo on the right shows the tunnel as it appears today. #MatildaInternationalHospital #ThePeak #Typhoon #Maternity

We are excited to share that Matilda International Hospital (MIH) and the Matilda Children’s Foundation (MCF) will work alongside Mongolia's National Centre for Traumatology and Orthopaedics (NCTO) to provide free, life changing surgeries to underprivileged Mongolian children. This collaboration addresses the need for specialised medical treatments that are unavailable in Mongolia. The agreement was signed by Linda Burgoyne, CEO of MIH and Chairperson of MCF, and Erdenetsetseg Galbadrakh, Director of NCTO, on 28 August 2024 in Mongolia. The signing was witnessed by Khulan Onkhoon, Consulate General of Mongolia in Hong Kong and Macao. Under this agreement, the parties will collaborate to identify eligible patients and facilitate their travel to Hong Kong for specialised care at MIH, leveraging its extensive orthopaedics expertise to significantly improve the lives of these children. Another fruitful outcome of the trip to Mongolia was the meeting with Dagvadorj Ochirbat, State Secretary of the Ministry of Health in Mongolia, where the two parties discussed the opportunity for doctor exchanges to share knowledge and skills between the two locations. We are grateful for the opportunity to extend our medical services beyond borders and make a tangible difference in the lives of underprivileged children in the region. We look forward to the positive impact this collaboration will have and continue striving to provide exceptional care where it is most needed.
