A new era of sustainability reporting is unfolding as we approach COP29 in Baku in November. Game-changing guidance released by the European Commission and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) earlier this year is a clear signal of the commitment to harmonise ESG reporting standards, bringing much-needed certainty to the market. This guidance represents a critical milestone towards a cohesive global framework, as the ISSB champions further international alignment. Emma Newnham, Linda L., Scott Gardiner and Emily Fox explain in the latest KWM Pulse blog post: https://lnkd.in/g7zrvbjm #SustainabilityReporting #ESG #KWMClimate #COP29

As we gear up for COP29 in Baku, our carbon market experts look at an important development that isn’t often discussed: Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs). Akin to carbon trading for nations, ITMOs are a way for countries that reduce emissions more than their Paris target to sell the excess ‘spared’ emissions to another country that has fallen short. ITMOs are not just a compliance tool – they catalyse financial support for sustainable initiatives. With the ITMO market set to expand, understanding its operation under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement is crucial for stakeholders. Meng Su and Suodi Xi give a practical guide to ITMOs, how they differ from other carbon credits and the opportunities they present for businesses to engage in climate action. https://ow.ly/kf2Y50ToMZ4 #ITMOs #COP29 #SustainableInvestment #KWMClimate
