Linking Students and Schools

About us

The Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) was conceived in 1999 by a few schools in China and Mongolia that were searching for a way to have their athletic teams participate in post-season tournament play. Today, ACAMIS has a membership of 92 schools ranging in size from less than 300 pupils to over 2,500 in Mongolia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. In addition to the continued connections for students through sports tournaments and cultural events, ACAMIS also helps school staff through professional development programs and networking opportunities. The services include: - Spring Leadership Conference (bringing together heads, aspiring heads, business managers, librarians, counselors, athletic directors, arts / cultural coordinators, curriculum coordinators, and others) - Chinese Conference focusing on language acquisition and best practices in Chinese language and culture - Early Childhood Education Conference in supporting the professional development needs of our members in international early childhood education - Technology Conference focuses on technology for teaching and learning that aims to bring together educators together to share best practices and provide take-aways that can be implemented directly in our specific local context. - English Language Learners (ELL) Conference focuses on issues on how to integrate increasingly diverse numbers of language speakers into a curriculum based largely on English as the main language of instruction. -PD workshops for middle managers and non-academic staff

  • Another ACAMIS Baton is Passed At the ACAMIS Spring Leadership Conference at Hangzhou International School in April, two long-time leaders in China stepped down from their leadership roles. They are past Executive Director, Tom Ulmet and past President, Steve Moody who is receiving an ACAMIS plaque from Tom in recognition of his years of service to ACAMIS. Steve is one of the longest serving Leaders in China, having arrived in 1996 and serving as Primary Principal and Deputy Director until 2007, and serving as Director since 2007. Steve’s first involvement with the Board was as a volunteer as Chair of the Board nominations committee, a role he filled for nearly 5 years. He has been a member of the ACAMIS Board of Directors since 2016. He served as President of the Board of Directors from May 2020 to April 2024. Although he has one year remaining in his term, he stepped down as President at the Spring Leadership Conference. His visionary leadership and encouraging style were instrumental in steering ACAMIS through the complex COVID years. His knowledge of China and key people contributed greatly to the stability of international schools during turbulent times. As one of the longest serving Presidents, he has left a lasting mark on our unique Association. Kudos, Steve, from a grateful ACAMIS Board and Membership! #ACAMIS #internationalschools #leadership #resilience

  • ACAMIS Creates the Tom Ulmet Award for Leadership Tom Ulmet, Executive Director of ACAMIS was honored for his service to ACAMIS at the Leadership Conference at Hangzhou International School. Tom attended his first ACAMIS Conference at its second conference in 2002 at the invitation of three founders of ACAMIS, Gez Hayden, Ian Stirling and John McBryde. Since that time, Tom has attended every ACAMIS Leadership Conference. He served as a Board member for 5 years and his appointment as Executive Director commenced in August 2015. During his tenure ACAMIS grew to 93 members. During the onset of COVID Tom had 6 informative articles published worldwide and 13 COVID alerts that reflected his connections and insider information. In his parting comments, Tom said, “It should not be about me, it is about we and the many teams of people and volunteers who are committed to ACAMIS ideals for students and schools” ACAMIS Board President, Steve Moody, Head of the International School of Tianjin, said, “Together, we once again wish to acknowledge your amazing wealth of experience and unmatched industry and institutional knowledge; your bottomless well of energy and stamina; your generous spirit, kind patience and incredible perseverance; and your dedicated and selfless leadership of and commitment to the people and defining purposes and direction of ACAMIS. And, most importantly of course, your wonderful friendship and very big heart.” It is fitting that Tom was presented with the first Leadership Award in honor of the high standards that are described in the Award. #ACAMIS #internationalschool #leadershipaward #leadership #resilience #adaptability #impact #influence #ethicalconduct #farewell

  • An extraordinary two-day learning adventure for our Chinese teachers to reconnect in Nanjing for this year's ACAMIS Chinese Conference, where they immersed themselves in an explorative journey to share, reflect upon their teaching method, strategies, assessment, and classroom management, and thereby integrate new ideas and put into action. This is also the last attending ACAMIS conference for our beloved Executive Director, Tom Ulmet, where he shared a final closing comment to sum up his years in ACAMIS and the connection with our Chinese teachers. We couldn't thank more to the superb supporting and coordinating work well done by the host school team at Nanjing International School, and our two keynote speakers, 何郁老师 and Dr Ying Chu for setting a nice tone for this conference, as well as the wonderful line up of peer presenters for sharing their wisdom and insights. The last but not the least, our big thumbs up to our Chinese Language Teachers Network (CLTN) planning committee for their hard work of producing another wonderful conference content. We wish everyone a wonderful summer break and hope to see you again next year! #acamis #acamischineseconference #chineseteachers #classroomlearning #chineseculture

  • End of an Era at ACAMIS! At the recent ACAMIS Spring Leadership Conference at Hangzhou International School with a record attendance, four giants in international schools in China stepped down from their roles on the ACAMIS Board of Directors. Join us in congratulating them for their outstanding service and leadership in guiding ACAMIS and its member schools through the difficult past years. Stepping down from the ACAMIS Board are the three in the center, Board Officer Jeffry Stubbs, Hangzhou International School; Board Member Howard Stribbell, PhD, Canadian International School of Guangzhou; Board Treasurer, Stephen Dare, Hong Kong Academy. President Steve Moody (right), International School of Tianjin, has stepped down as President, but has one more year in his term as a Board Member. Cumulatively, they have nearly 40 years of valuable contributions and service to 94 member schools, over 60,000 students and over 10,000 teachers and staff. Innovate Learning with EdTech

I had an incredible weekend working with the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) Tech Committee team to plan the upcoming ACAMIS Tech Conference. It was a highly productive day as we efficiently planned out key elements for the conference. I'm thrilled to share that this year's theme, which I suggested, is "Innovation for Impact." The team all agreed on this theme, and I feel very fortunate to have their support. I am deeply honored to announce that the conference will be held at my current school, Renaissance College Hong Kong, on 19-20 October 2024. Working with the amazing individuals on the ACAMIS Tech Committee is a dream come true. I have learned so much from them and continue to do so. The committee is incredibly well-structured and represents a truly inclusive international school community. I also want to extend a huge thank you to Tom Ulmet, the executive director of Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS), who has always kindly shared opportunities with me and supported my growth and learning. Our planning meeting was his last committee meeting in this position, and he will be greatly missed. More details and a call for presenters will be out soon! Save the date and see you all in Hong Kong! Harry Brown Emlyn Majoos Rugera Wanjara SILKY VYAS Hao Zhai Todd Voykin #ACAMIS #TechConference #InnovationForImpact #EdTech #InternationalEducation

Over the weekend, we had the privilege of hosting the 2024 Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) Spring Leadership Conference. The event drew over 500 leaders from schools around China, Mongolia, Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong, making it the largest-ever turnout in this conference’s history. Under the overarching theme, “Opportunities to Build” we brought in an exceptional lineup of over 85 peer presenters, panelists, and student presenters. A big thank you to everyone who generously shared their knowledge, insights, and expertise in these sessions. The feedback received has been sensational! Our conference kicked off with a captivating presentation by keynote speaker, Michael McQueen. He discussed the rapid pace of change, innovation, and the exciting opportunities for schools to embrace AI. It was informative, eye-opening, and sparked many interesting conversations among attendees. We were also privileged to have Rosalind Wiseman as our second keynote speaker. Rosalind spent two days in Hangzhou, leading a fantastic PD workshop for all HIS faculty while also presenting at the ACAMIS Spring Leadership Conference, discussing ways to lead with courage and integrity, and bridging the generational divide.   As hosts, we were delighted to have this opportunity to showcase not only our beautiful campus and city of Hangzhou but also our exceptional students, many of whom joined us at the conference. Whether it was the Longyin Club and MUN student presenters, our theatre students on stage with Fursey Gotuaco, or our brilliant band led by Brian Vincent who truly energized the crowd… We even had student-led Tai Chi sessions in the afternoon! Our students shined as they stood side-by-side with presenters and attendees, shaking hands and networking. During the conference, HIS had the honor of receiving two prestigious ACAMIS awards. The first was the Jim Koerschen Award for Innovation in Schools, which our GIN Club proudly won for their outstanding project in the field of science and were granted funding to support their project. Congratulations GIN Club for this well-deserved recognition! The second award was a Service Learning Grant won by our student, Saanvi, for her community work with the Blood Drive. Congratulations, Saanvi, on your remarkable achievement!   Organizing a conference of this size and scale is no small feat, and we are immensely proud of everyone involved. We extend our deepest gratitude to the teams at Hangzhou International School and ACAMIS who dedicated their efforts to making this year’s conference an outstanding success. #LeadershipConference #ACAMIS #InternationalSchools

𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬, 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: DCB at the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) FIRST LEGO League On April 13, Dulwich College Beijing participated in the ACAMIS FIRST LEGO League Robotics Competition, held at BCIS. The event brought together 17 teams from five different schools in a spirited showcase of innovation, teamwork, and robotics expertise. The competition was a thrilling display of student ingenuity, with teams tasked to design, build, and program robots to perform complex tasks, inspired by this year's 𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦 theme, which intertwined elements of performing and visual arts, music, and more. Across the board, teams demonstrated significant advancements in their robot designs and coding skills, engaging with judges in discussions that highlighted their projects and core values including discovery, innovation, and teamwork. Dulwich College Beijing's Team Two was a standout, earning the 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝. This prestigious accolade recognizes the team that embodies the spirit of the FIRST LEGO League through exceptional teamwork, enthusiasm, and commitment to the competition's culture. Team Two's performance was noted for its energy and collaborative spirit, which left a lasting impression on both peers and judges. The event was not only a competition but a celebration of the core values of the FIRST LEGO League—Discovery, Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, Teamwork, and Fun. All participants showed remarkable progress and learning through each round of the robotics table. The spirit of "gracious professionalism," another fundamental principle of FIRST, was palpable, adding to the joy and educational value of the event. As we celebrate Team Two's achievement, we also look forward to seeing how their experience at the ACAMIS FLL Robotics Competition will inspire further innovations and success in future competitions.
