Danna (calf) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. Danna was unable to play in Week 4 against the Chargers due to a calf injury he sustained during practice leading up to the game. He was at least able to practice in some capacity Thursday, and the next two practice sessions will provide a better sense of his status heading into Monday's game against the Saints. Danna has recorded 12 tackles (eight solo), including 0.5 sacks, in three regular-season games.

Latest Chiefs News
Mike Danna : Limited to start week
Danna (calf) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. Danna was unable to play in Week 4 against the Chargers due to a calf injury he sustained during practice leading up to the game. He was at least able to practice in some capacity Thursday, and the next two practice sessions will provide a better sense of his status heading into Monday's game against the Saints. Danna has recorded 12 tackles (eight solo), including 0.5 sacks, in three regular-season games.
Kareem Hunt : Limited practice Thursday
Hunt (shoulder) was limited at practice Thursday. In his season debut with the Chiefs, Hunt logged a 45 percent snap share in the team's Week 4 win over the Chargers en route to carrying 14 times for 69 yards and adding two catches (on three targets) for 16 yards. As Monday night's game against the Saints approaches, Hunt's status now is worth tracking. If he's available versus New Orleans, Hunt figures to maintain a key role in Kansas City's Week 5 backfield, which also includes Samaje Perine and Carson Steele and could welcome back Clyde Edwards-Helaire from the from the reserve/non-football illness list.
Mecole Hardman : Pops up on injury report
Hardman (knee) was a Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com participant in practice Thursday. Hardman will open the week on the team's injury report but with the Chiefs not playing until Monday night against the Saints, he still has a few days to recuperate. If he's ultimately unable to play Skyy Moore and Xavier Worthy would be candidates to fill in as Kansas City's return men.
Rashee Rice : Lands on IR
The Chiefs placed Rice (knee) on injured reserve Thursday. Rice is slated to undergo testing on his right knee next week, after which the Chiefs will have a better idea regarding the severity of the injury he suffered in this past Sunday's win over the Chargers. At the very least, Rice's move to IR ensures that the wideout will miss at least the team's next four games. In Rice's absence, tight end Travis Kelce could take on a heightened role in the passing attack on short and intermediate routes, while wideouts Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Skyy Moore are all candidates to see their involvement on offense expand.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire : Practice window opened
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed that Edwards-Helaire was designated for return to practice Wednesday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports. Though Edwards-Helaire's 21-day evaluation window was opened Wednesday, he didn't take the field that day and instead made his return to practice Thursday for the Chiefs' first official Week 5 session. According to Derrick, Edwards-Helaire is scheduled to take part in scout-team work Thursday, and the running back's progress will be measured over the next few days before a determination is made on his availability for Monday's game against the Saints. Once activated from the reserve/non-football illness list, Edwards-Helaire could push for a role in a Kansas City backfield that currently includes Kareem Hunt, Samaje Perine and Carson Steele while lead option Isiah Pacheco (fibula) is on injured reserve.
Rashee Rice : Set for further tests next week
Head coach Andy Reid said Thursday that Rice is slated to undergo further testing on his right knee next week, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports. Per Adam Teicher of ESPN.com, the Chiefs are waiting for the swelling in Rice's knee to be reduced before the wideout's upcoming tests are done. The team already has confirmed that Rice won't be available for Monday's game against the Saints, according to Teicher, but beyond that, there's no definitive timeline for his recovery. Initial concerns were that Rice may have torn his right ACL, but for now the team is in "wait and see" mode according to Reid, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports. For any length of time Rice misses, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson and JuJu Smith-Schuster are the top candidates to fill the void created by his absence.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire : Cleared for practice
Edwards-Helaire (illness) is returning to practice this week and should be available for games soon, NFL Network's Ian Rapaport reports. Edwards-Helaire didn't get much playing time outside of blowouts or clear passing situations last season, but he may take on a larger role now that Isiah Pacheco (fibula) is on injured reserve and likely out until at least November. The Chiefs otherwise have Kareem Hunt, Samaje Perine and Carson Steele as their backfield options ahead of Monday's game against New Orleans, giving Edwards-Helaire a chance to mix in immediately if everything checks out in practice this week.
Rashee Rice : Optimism from Patrick Mahomes
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Wednesday that he hopes Rice (knee) can return soon, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports. Early concerns about an ACL tear have given way to a more optimistic tone, although Rice has already been ruled out for Week 5 against the Saints and seems likely to miss additional time. He's still in the process of getting multiple doctors' opinions on the injury to figure out a recovery and rehab plan, which means he isn't totally out of the woods in terms of undergoing surgery and/or requiring a long-term absence. Mahomes mentioned wideouts Justin Watson and JuJu Smith-Schuster and tight end Noah Gray as candidates to take on larger roles while Rice is unavailable.
