Registers second sack of season
Diaby logged five solo tackles, including 1.0 sacks, during Monday's 41-31 loss to Baltimore. Diaby got his second sack of the season Monday, taking down Lamar Jackson for an eight-yard loss midway through the first quarter. The 2023 third-round pick has played at least 54 percent of the Bucs' defensive snaps in all seven regular-season games this year, and over that span he has accrued 19 tackles (15 solo), including 2.0 sacks, and one forced fumble.
Records first sack of season
Diaby recorded two solo tackles, including 1.0 sacks, in the Buccaneers' 33-16 win over the Eagles on Sunday. Diaby finally got a QB takedown in his fourth game of the campaign, despite logging his second-lowest snap count (35) of the young season. The second-year pro, who recorded 7.5 sacks as a rookie across 17 regular-season games in part-time duty, has only topped out at two tackles in terms of a single-game high thus far, so he still has plenty of work to do to qualify as a valuable IDP asset.
Practices in full Wednesday
Diaby (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice session. Diaby sustained a high-ankle sprain in late July, which kept him out of training camp for all of August, but he appears healthy enough to participate in team drills. The 2023 third-round pick is slated to start at outside linebacker opposite Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. In his rookie season, Diaby recorded 38 tackles (25 solo), including 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries over 17 regular-season games.
Missing preseason, Week 1 hopeful
Diaby (ankle) is not expected to play this preseason, but he avoided a serious injury and Tampa Bay's staff is hopeful he will be ready for Week One, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site and Jenna Laine of ESPN reports. Diaby was carted off the field Thursday and suffered a high ankle sprain, but his injury appears to not be serious. The team's top outside linebacker will now focus on being healthy for the Bucaneers' season opener against Washington, which he reportedly feels optimistic about.
Dealing with high-ankle sprain
Diaby sustained a high-ankle sprain during practice Thursday and is expected to miss four-to-six weeks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. It looked like Diaby had sustained a serious injury Thursday after he was unable to put any weight on his leg and was carted off the field. Luckily, X-rays came back negative, though it appears that the 2023 third-round pick is in jeopardy of missing the regular-season opener against the Commanders on Sept. 9. Diaby is coming off a strong rookie campaign in which he registered 38 tackles (25 solo), including 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries across 17 regular-season games. With Randy Gregory yet to report to training camp, Chris Braswell, Anthony Nelson and Markees Watts will have increased reps in practice and preseason games, and they could be competing for the second starting outside linebacker job opposite Joe Tryon-Shoyinka if Diaby were to be sidelined for the start of the regular season.
Injured during practice
Diaby suffered an ankle injury during practice Thursday and was carted off the field, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Diaby was unable to put weight on his leg, according to Auman, but fortunately, his X-rays came back normal, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The second-year-pro will still have to undergo an MRI later Thursday, so he's not fully out of the woods yet. If the injury is of any significance it'll be a fairly tough blow to the Bucs defense, with Diaby expected to have a starting role in the team's linebacker unit coming off a strong rookie campaign.
