Skies were clear on Friday, June 7, for the Graduate School of Education (GSE) alumni reunion and Block Party at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center Campus, which was a resoundingly successful kick-off to a New York summer. The event brought together educators, staff, alumni, and faculty to celebrate accomplishments and reconnect with the Fordham community.
Yi Ding, Ph.D. receives the 2024 Scanlon Award
Dean José Luis Alvarado, Ph.D., honored two distinguished award recipients: Yi Ding, Ph.D, a professor of school psychology, received the 2024 Scanlon Award for her exceptional contributions to the field and her dedication to training future school psychologists. The award is named in honor of the late Kathryn I. Scanlon, a former professor of education at Fordham University who dedicated 20 years to serving as the director of teacher training, and is presented to only the most distinguished contributors to the work of GSE.
Theodicia D. Collins, Ed.D., was presented with the GSE Alumni Award for 2024. Currently serving as assistant principal at the Nelson Mandela School for Social Justice in Brooklyn, Collins’ dedication to transformative education and social justice makes a lasting, daily impact on students, their communities, and their futures.
Notably, the evening also featured a special visit from Fordham President Tania Tetlow, who spoke on the importance of equity in education, emphasizing Fordham’s commitment to creating inclusive and supportive learning environments.

Following the reunion, attendees enjoyed a festive block party on the Lincoln Center Plaza, complete with a variety of food, an open bar, a DJ, and a lively dance floor, making it a memorable night for all.
