The International Scientific Conference "Global Commodity Chains from a Risk Assessment Perspective" (Berlin, May 27-29, 2024), organized by the Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung, brought together renowned researchers, authorities, and experts from the private sector to share and exchange knowledge on food safety. The WATSON project hosted a workshop entitled "Solutions for Transparency and Integrity in the EU Food System." This workshop was organized by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin's Agrifood Chain Management Group and the Max Rubner-Institut's Department of Safety and Quality of Meat. The partners showcased the vision of the WATSON project in implementing a traceability framework targeting relevant EU food sectors. BioCoS presented "DNA Traceability in the Olive Oil Value Chain: Ensuring Product Integrity and Enhancing Sustainability," highlighting the pivotal role of DNA technologies in securing the olive oil supply chain. Last week, our CEO Stelios Arhondakis, visited our WATSON partners in Perugia, Italy. He had the opportunity to meet with several Italian producers of high-end Olive Oil and stop by their orchards and mills. At the same time, it was presented how DNA traceability on an EVOO label benefits its market position. In parallel, technical meetings were held at the #CNR with our WATSON partners, Dr. Nicolò Cultrera and Dr. Valentina Passeri from #IBBR-CNR in the presence of Gabriele Mocio, Director of #AprolUmbria, to optimize strategies for the successful execution of the pilots.
