Mar 1, 2000 · This paper presents a method to have a computer express “unknown” hidden causes, ie not included in the given knowledge.
Abstract. It is hard to have knowledge including all events which may have caused observed events. This makes it difficult to infer significant causes.
Our method is to have the computer infer known causes of time-series of observed events, for detecting unexpectedly strong co-occurrences among known events.

We present a computational algorithm that counts the occurrences of a collection of patterns from multiple event streams with just one pass through the data.
