We've put together a session that can be delivered online 🏳️⚧️ 'ALL THINGS TRANS - ASK ANYTHING' 🏳️⚧️ The session aims to de-mystify the subject and give you (your audience) the chance to:- 🩵 meet someone transgender, 🩷 find out more about the transgender experience and 🤍 ask anything in a protected space. 🤗 Danielle Wood Wood facilitates the session that explores Sophie Wood’s lived experience of gender transition male to female. Following an informal chat with Sophie about her personal journey and how that impacts on her life we then encourage attendees to ‘Ask Anything’ so that a greater level of understanding is achieved. So last week we were ready! Picture the scene...... It was 5.00am in the south of Spain and we were sitting in the middle of one of the worst thunder storms for years. Super excited to start delivering our Think Tank session online to an audience from across the globe - ARE YOU SCARED TO SAY THE WRONG THING? - DE-MYSTIFYING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION. The power kept waning while the thunder and lightening continued, our wifi connection kept cutting out and we had to abandon. Gutted!!!!!!!!!! 😤 We quickly agreed to try again 48 hours later. We decided to go to a co-working space to ensure stronger connectivity as another storm approached. Another early alarm and we arrrived at the co-working space at 5.00am, it was wet and windy, we let ourselves in and then........ ⏰😯⏰😯⏰😯 yep, the alarm went off, we didn't even realise there was one, oops!!!! So standing in the pi**ing down rain not one but 2 security vehicles arrived and in my best Spanish I explained who we were, why we were there at that time in morning and managed to convince them we weren't doing the place over once I provided my ID. So at 6.00am, bedraggled and frazzled we eventually delivered the session. 🎃👻🎃 HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃👻🎃 I am posting this today for no other reason other than it's one of the few things that has made me smile this week! I've been a bit quiet on social media recently as my mental health has dipped just a little bit and I've been finding it hard to be on my game. Not sure if it's the fact the weather has turned (the temperature has dropped and we've had really bad storms in Spain this week). Or, maybe it's because despite my best efforts not many people seem to want to raise awareness around the trans experience during the upcoming #TransgenderAwarenessWeek in November. I'm passionate about what I do but sometimes it's really hard. As a result all my creativity has just up and left me this week 😟 So as this made me smile, I thought I'd share a seasonal picture of my little furry family Munchkin, Woody and Frodo. This is Sophie Wood💜 She's beautiful inside and out and she's my soulmate. She's the most resilient and brave person I have ever met and I feel blessed to have her in my life. I very nearly lost her back in 2011 because her mental health was at an all time low, she'd hit rock bottom. I know some people thought it was because she was confused, because she was struggling with gender dysphoria, but it wasn't. It was a combination of so many other things. Rejection by her family, strangers staring in the street, being the target of cruel and hurtful comments on a daily basis, a societal narrative that dehumanises and worse demonises trans-people and finally (due to an admin error) being denied gender affirming treatment. She felt so low she couldn't see a way forward. I know from personal experience that it can take a while to get your head around what it is to be transgender. I know not everyone understands it. I also know that some people never will. Whatever your stance I urge people to think about how their words and actions can have such a potentially devasting impact on others.
