About us
Ecobank Ghana PLC (Ecobank) was incorporated on January 9, 1989 as a private limited liability company under the Companies Code to engage in the business of commercial banking. Ecobank was initially licensed, to operate as a merchant bank, by the Bank of Ghana on November 10, 1989 and commenced business on February 19, 1990. In Ghana, Ecobank has grown consistently over the years to become one of the well- recognized corporate brands in the banking industry. Ecobank acquired a universal banking license in 2003 and was listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) in July 2006. The Bank has embarked on a strategic shift from a predominantly Wholesale Bank to a Universal Bank with 64 branches, numerous point-of-sale terminals, several merchant QR codes in shops, with over 200 ATMs well sited around the country and over 3,000 Xpress Points (Agency Banking locations). The bank posted sterling financial performance at the close of 2017, with total asset size of GHS9.09 billion, shareholders’ funds of GHS1.036 billion, profit before tax of GHS358.383 million and profit after tax of GHS253.645 million. This resulted in a return on average equity (ROAE) of 25.4% and return on average assets (ROAA) of 3.0%.

Phishing, Smishing, Social Engineering, Pretexting - these are just a few terms for common fraud schemes. As part of Cybersecurity Month, we're here to remind you of the importance of staying one step ahead. Understanding how fraudsters operate can help you recognise the red flags. As an Ecobank customer, remember: Ecobank will never ask for sensitive information like your mobile app or ATM PIN, full debit card number, One-Time Password (OTP), CVV (the three digits on the back of your card), or send links to upgrade your account or resolve issues. If you ever receive a suspicious message urging immediate action, don’t hesitate - reach out to our 24/7 support team at ecobank.com/ecobankassist or visit your nearest branch. Be alert, #BeSecure!

We continue to lead the way in transforming Africa through education. Ecobank Day is our flagship annual social impact initiative, led by the Ecobank Foundation, where we give back to communities in Ghana and across 34 other African countries. This year, under the theme "Ignite with AI", we are empowering students across four schools with state-of-the-art Digital Learning Centres. These centres include: · South Labone Girls Technical Institute, Accra · Potters Village Orphanage, Dodowa · 4 Garrison Educational Centre, Kumasi · Bishop Assuah Catholic Basic School, Takoradi The two centres in Accra and Dodowa have already been equipped with fully functional ICT labs serving as digital centres, with free internet connectivity, specialized training in web development, animation, robotics, and artificial intelligence. We have also cut sod to extend similar facilities to the schools in Kumasi and Takoradi. We do this to ensure that no child is left behind. hrough this initiative, we are equipping over 2,600 young minds with the skills they need to thrive in the digital age. As we provide the foundation for better literacy, numeracy, and digital skills, we are igniting a passion for learning that will shape the future of Africa. Each school was also provided with locally authored books, to serve as supplementary readers, for upper primary and junior high school students as part of our deliberate efforts to promote African Literature. Together with Ghana Code Club and our committed employees, we are proud to make a lasting impact. Stay tuned for more updates from other centres! #EcobankDay2024 #TransformingAfrica
