I would love to know if any P-12 school/district leader outside of Africa, who attended ASCD Ghana this summer, offers or plans to offer one or more African languages as part of their world languages curricula. I am especially interested in US schools/districts.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." — Nelson Mandela Reflecting on my recent experience as a #volunteer at the International Educator's Summit 2024 in Accra, I’m reminded of how true Mandela’s words ring. This incredible event brought together educators from around the globe, united by a shared passion for shaping the future through education. As a #volunteer, I had the privilege of immersing myself in key sessions that explored groundbreaking ideas and strategies to elevate our educational practices. From learning how Ashesi University is empowering students to be powerful learners, to understanding the role of AI in future-proofing education, the summit was a treasure trove of insights. One session that truly resonated with me was Patrick Awuah presentation on tailoring education to meet the unique needs of every learner. His emphasis on inclusivity and the power of innovative tools in transforming learning experiences is something I believe every educator should embrace. Another highlight was Richard Culatta talk on the integration of AI in education. He brilliantly balanced the excitement around AI’s potential with a reminder of the irreplaceable value of human skills like critical thinking and creativity. The summit also underscored the importance of debate-inspired instruction, as presented by Kimberly Willingham and Mary Dibinga. Debating isn’t just about winning arguments—it's about fostering essential skills like problem-solving, effective communication, and critical thinking, all of which are crucial for our students’ success in both academic and professional realms. Participating in this summit reinforced my belief that education is a continuous journey of learning and unlearning, where we, as educators, must constantly evolve to meet the needs of our students. I would like to say a special thanks to Charles Yeboah, PhD, the Executive Director of ASCD Ghana, and his team who made this happen. Ayekoo!!! #ASCDGhana #Education #IES #GlobalEducators

I agree Moses Okoth, this past July I was in Ghana for the 1st ASCD Ghana International Conference with educators from around the world. Not only did we discuss these inequities, as a collective we will work on finding ways to support Africa at Large. This weekend I am presenting virtually with Fliplearnkids, in Nigeria, to support Tech Skills for students. I am only one person but I intend to do all that I can to ensure children around the world have access to adequate Tech and resources to help drive future ready skills.
