The final album by WillyRodriguezWasTaken takes a dramatic shift from the often dancy jangle pop of their previous releases, morphing the band’s sound into a haunting rock opera that tells a dark story orchestrated by a blend of emo, chamber pop, dark cabaret and even post-rock influences with the band’s signature noise pop stylings.
Initially conceived as a rework of the band’s disowned sophomore effort, Terminal Lucidity, the project morphed over the course of over a year into a nearly entirely separate project. Plagued by creative difficulties and interpersonal issues that lead to the band’s dissolution, the album almost never saw the light of day. However, with insistence by producer Cameron Simms and their manager Cici, the album was finished and released on Christmas Day, 2023.
