About “Periphery V: Djent Is Not a Genre”

Periphery V: Djent Is Not a Genre (colloquially known as P5) is the seventh studio release from progressive metal group Periphery, following their well-received 2019 album Periphery IV: HAIL STAN.

In the three-year lead up to the announcement of P5, various members of Periphery ventured out in side projects facilitated through their record label. These included, but were not limited to, Haunted Shores' Void (Misha & Mark), Jake Bowen’s The Daily Sun, and King Mothership’s The Ritual (Matt & Spencer).

The name stems from a long chapter of the subgenre’s validity questioned through internet discourse and debate, often memed. One such meme directly references ‘Djent is not a genre’, that being a quote from a Twitter rant from Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe in 2011.
