Flowers Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I flew to you on an airplane
I was afraid, but you gave me strength
Forever birds were so 'tween love
Baby, come back to me
Baby, come back like it was
Dreaming of us, kissing on the creek
If I listen hard, I can hear you speak

[Chorus]
Flowers never last forever
But we can make it past forever
Baby, come home to me
Baby, you're home with me

[Verse 2]
I sent you a song, it was "Time After Time"
Late in the night, but you still reply
Forever, birds that flew too fast
City skyscrapers, two birds flew into the glass
I guess I'll move on from this haunted house
Floating around, waiting for your call

[Chorus]
Flowers never last forever (Flowers, never)
But we can make it past forever (Lasts forever)
Baby, come home to me (Flowers)
Baby, you're home with me (Never, lasts)

Genius Annotation

Appearing in “A Rickconvenient Mort”, the 3rd episode of Season 5 of the acclaimed Adult Swim show Rick and Morty, this song contrasts the death of love with the death of flowers. The episode the song appears in shows main character Morty experiencing his first breakup in which he realizes the person he’s dating isn’t good for him. The person in question being Planetina, a Captain Planet-esque character that becomes violent after the rings that summon her are taken from their holders that used her for profit but also kept her in check. She gifts Morty flowers in the shape of his face, but over the course of their relationship he can’t bear to be with her because of her increasingly violent nature so he breaks up with her. The flowers that she gifted him are shown dying afterward because they, as well as Morty and Planetina’s love, could never have lasted forever.
