About the Author

Emmanuel Acho picked up a football and made it to the NFL. He picked up a pen and became a New York Times bestselling author for Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man, followed by the #1 bestseller Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Boy. He picked up a microphone and won a Primetime Emmy for his groundbreaking online series, Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man, amassing more than 90 million views to date. All this by the age of thirty, because of his ability to think and act illogically.


Emmanuel, the son of Nigerian immigrant parents, grew up in Dallas with his three siblings. He is a 2021 Sports Emmy winner, Fox Sports analyst (cohost of FS1’s Speak), and television personality. He is a former NFL linebacker and has a master’s degree in sports psychology from the University of Texas.

Emmanuel Acho grew up in Dallas with his three siblings, the son of Nigerian immigrant parents. In 2012 he was drafted into the NFL by the Cleveland Browns, and later played with the Philadelphia Eagles, while earning a master’s degree in sports psychology at the University of Texas in the off-seasons. In 2016 he left the NFL for ESPN, where he served as the youngest national football analyst, and was named a 2018 Forbes Under 30 Selection. He is now a Fox Sports analyst and the creator of the ongoing online video series “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man.”

Emmanuel Acho is a very engaging speaker--I love listening to him. The content of this book probably warranted three stars (there are some good examples and anecdotes but also a lot of ideas that are pretty common in motivational books), but LISTENING to him as the narrator on the audio version bumped it up to four stars for me. The energy and enthusiasm in the narration definitely made it fun and inspiring for me beyond what was written on the pages. I'm not 100-percent sold on the idea of being "illogical" (he seemed to offer some pretty logical tips for how to become illogical, and the overall idea seemed more about being unlimited than illogical), but it was really was an enjoyable book to listen to.

I listened to an audiobook provided by the publisher via #NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This is my second Emmanuel Acho book I've read in less than a month. I love the way his books are written, how easy they are to read. You can feel his passion in his writing. His need to be successful in everything he does. These are things that playing football teach you. I did get a bit upset in this book a bit by his "entitlement" as a rich kid in a private school. Getting upset that he wasn't named Athlete of the year or King of the prom. That kinda made me look at him side ways. I love the books and look forward to reading more.
