Last fall I used the Permatex adhesive below - I carefully followed instructions & installed new headliner fabric onto my existing, well-prepped panel. This spring the fabric started separating from the board above the front seats, and now it's all separated. Is this stuff just not that great? Is there a different adhesive that you all recommend that you like & that'll last?

3M always

I prefer Weldwood contact cement, though I have used the 3M aerosol General trim adhesive without issue

3M 38808. Hasn't let me or my headliners down yet. Gotta do it per instructions though. No super heavy or super light spray. Got to get decent coverage but not dripping wet. Allow enough flash time for it to get tacky on both sides before adhering. I think people get in a hurry and think it's like super glue. You want it to get tacky before sticking it together.

If you have a small weenie paint roller with a fuzzy roller installed, I find that works pretty well to smooth it all down. Plus it's cheap as all get out. I've also smoothed it down with a clean hand which works well, too. ENSURE you don't get any glue on the outside of the fabric, roller, or your hand.

Did you spray both the cloth and the board, or just one of them?
Both cloth and board. Criss-cross pattern, let it get tacky. Basically exactly to the instructions on the can.

I'll try the 3M 38808. I should've used that in the first place. Thanks, all...

Thanks! Sounds like you did it perfect and it still failed. Have a new can of it guess it will have be used for something else.

I bought the same stuff but I haven't started the job yet. I guess I should buy something else?

That stuff failed on me too. I did a faux suede headliner in my E36 BMW and it was falling in a about 6 months. I used Weldwood brush on contact cement from Home Depot for the one I did in my G Body and it stunk to high heaven but it worked awesome and was easy to use. Much cheaper too.
