A coalition of veterinary associations, led by FVE and including the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA), the Federation of European Equine Veterinary Associations (FEEVA), and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA), recently united to address critical issues in animal welfare. This collaboration resulted in a comprehensive Joint Position Paper outlining 14 key recommendations designed to improve the welfare of companion animals through better behaviour and training practices. On 17 December 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM CET, the coalition hosted a webinar to present and discuss the position paper’s recommendations.

The session focused on advocating for improved training methods, preventing behavioural problems, and promoting the importance of species-specific approaches to animal behaviour and welfare. This webinar served as a platform to interact and highlight the necessity of evidence-based, welfare-oriented practices in animal training, reinforcing the pivotal role of veterinarians and allied professionals in enhancing the lives of companion animals.
