People always say there isn’t value in betting favorites, but that reasoning goes out the window when those favorites end up winning. For one bettor at DraftKings Sportsbook in New Hampshire, the UConn Huskies’ dominant run was the culmination of a multi-month four-leg parlay that ended up winning $231,678.13 off a $100 bet after UConn’s 75-60 win over Purdue on Monday night.
The four-leg parlay consisted of UFC, golf, men’s college basketball and women’s college basketball:
- UFC: Ilia Topuria +105 to beat Alexander Volkanovski
- NCAAB: UConn to win men’s tourney +650
- NCAAW: South Carolina to win women’s tourney +125
- PGA: Hideki Matsuyama to win Genesis Invitational 66-1
The bet was placed on Feb. 16, in the middle of the Genesis Invitational, a tournament that Matsuyama went on to win by seven strokes. Topuria knocked out Volkanovski on Feb. 18, setting up the college basketball legs as the only two remaining.
The Huskies were never truly challenged, while South Carolina had a few close games — including against Caitlin Clark and Iowa in the final — but emerged victorious.
Not bad for a $100 bet.
