That’s the thing about microphones — they broadcast the sound in front of them for all to hear.

And Wisconsin men’s basketball forward Nigel Hayes learned this the hard way during a press conference, when a live mic caught him whispering to his teammates that a woman in attendance was “beautiful.”

We’re not entirely sure who the woman was, but one thing is certain: Once Hayes realized he’d been overheard, his reaction was all kinds of priceless. (Almost as priceless as when he said “cattywampus” in an earlier press conference to make the stenographer “work a little harder.”)

Hayes and the rest of the 1-seed Badgers face 4-seed North Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen on Thursday.
