Watch Bryce Harper play football before a Nationals game

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, who’s on the disabled list with a left thumb injury, played catch with a football in the outfield at Nationals Park before Wednesday night’s game against the Reds.

Harper managed to catch the ball with one hand, since his injured one is in a splint. And that, really, is the only notable thing about Bryce Harper throwing a football around in the outfield before a game. That, and that it’s Bryce Harper doing stuff, which is always kind of notable.

Baseball players, believe it or not, have access to sporting goods from other sports besides baseball. That sometimes leads to baseball players throwing footballs or frisbees around in the outfield before games. Some pitchers say throwing a football is good for building arm strength.
