FSU suffered a shocking loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to begin the 2023 season. Offensively, they couldn’t find a rhythm until the final drive, and on defense, they got dominated for all four quarters.
Team-wise, it was a dismal performance for Florida State. However, two players had good outings for the Seminoles. Safety Shyheim Brown and kicker Ryan Fitzgerald were among those named the ACC Players of the Week for Week 0.
Bown was named the defensive back of the week after making a career-high 13 tackles and one tackle for loss. Fitzgerald was named the specialist of the week after he made two 50-yard field goals, including a career-long 59-yarder as the first half ended.
Brown is coming off a campaign with 53 tackles, an interception, four pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. Fitzgerald was third-team All-ACC in 2023 after making 19 of his 21 kicks. So, it’s encouraging for the outlook of the season for both that they got off to a fast start.
Florida State will need to do that this Saturday in their home opener against the Boston College Eagles to avoid an 0-2 start.
