Paris Airports dominate the numbers - data provided by Cirium. Like London in the United Kingdom, air travel in France revolves around the French capital, Paris. 56% of all departing seats sold leave from either Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), Paris-Orly Airport (ORY), or Paris Beauvais Airport (BVA). Interestingly, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is less busy than it was in 2019 pre-pandemic, while Paris-Orly Airport (ORY) has seen an increase thanks to low-cost carriers. Leading ORY's growth is Air France's subsidiary Transavia, Spain's Vueling, and London Luton Airport (LTN)-based easyJet. Meanwhile, Paris-Beauvais (BVA) has grown in importance thanks to Irish low-cost airline Ryanair. Given French demographics, it is unsurprising that the French Riviera city of Nice on the famous Côte d'Azur is in third place, followed by the Mediterranean port of Marseille. In fifth place is the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region capital, Lyon. Renowned for its cuisine and gastronomy, Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS) is a hub for easyJet.

All time high for international guests at Scandinavian Mountains Airport Scandinavian Mountains Airport AB in Malung-Sälens kommun, was inaugurated in December 2019. Soon after, the pandemic hit the world and the high targets for the number of travelers to the airport were crushed. There are now clear signs that the airport and the industry in general have begun to recover. - Things have turned around and we are ready for takeoff, says Gunnar Leman, CEO at Scandinavian Mountains Airport. The initial, overall goals regarding the number of travelers were set high: 350,000 guests within a 10-year period. That number still exists today, but it is further ahead on the horizon. The numbers on an annual basis have had to be revised after the pandemic, and they follow an expected, increased trend. Last weekend, five airplanes landed and took off from the airport with a total of 1,250 passengers, which is the second best number since the airport opened just over four years ago. The record is from a Sunday in February 2022. - Last Saturday we had two airplanes from Amsterdam, one each from London, Groningen (the Netherlands) and Copenhagen. It was the best international day so far. In February 2022, it was mostly about domestic flights, explains the airport's CEO, Gunnar Leman. To date, this season they have had almost 15,000 passengers, which is 40 percent more than the same period last year. According to the current forecast, the airport will reach around 25,000 passengers on 400 different flights this season. Last year there were a total of 17,888 passengers. - The interest in flying here is huge. Both airlines and tour operators have increased as they become aware of our existence, says the CEO. This winter's three biggest airlines are with TUI and Transavia from Amsterdam, SAS - Scandinavian Airlines from Copenhagen and Transavia from Groningen (The Netherlands). - The goal in the long term is of course that there will be flights to and from Scandinavian Mountains Airport in the summer, for which many have already shown interest. Maybe there will be domestic flights already this summer, we'll see. Superb innovative work from Normandie Tourisme to bring in cheaper tickets for visitors who arrive at attractions here in the region on low carbon transportation (Buses, Trains, Foot and by Bike) Innovation must be applauded. It must also be stretched to be truly impactful and effective. But I am left wondering if this is far enough and another step of innovation is needed?........ What if it was based on the last two forms of transport the client used? Would the decarbonisation picture look the same? Could electric and hydrogen cars be included? They are low carbon? The decarbonisation of Ferries and Planes per PAX too difficult to tackle? I think state and regional subsidies of these high carbon intensity services makes that a step too far?
