The mission of the Paratonnerre is to increase the awareness of NORSE and FIRES; to stimulate, integrate and support NORSE/FIRES research; and to develop a shared community of NORSE/FIRES researchers and families.

NORSE is a clinical presentation in which patients without a history of epilepsy suddenly develop prolonged seizures that do not respond to at least two standard anti-convulsant medications and for which the cause for the seizures remains unidentifiable beyond 72 hours.
