Today was the technical visit at the 78th RILEM Association Week! 👷🏻♀️ We got to visit the ongoing construction sites for the new metro line of Toulouse city 🚈🇫🇷 It was definitely a very interesting visit. This is a project that contains very innovative construction methods and that also takes into account the aspect of sustainability in its design and development. For instance, the precast concrete pieces used for the construction of the tunnels were made with low-carbon cement, which contains only 55% clinker! Thanks to Tisséo Ingénierie for this great opportunity 😃

Many thanks to the speakers (Prof. Véronique Baroghel-Bouny, Dr. Stefanie v. Greve-Dierfeld, Prof. Ippei Maruyama, Prof. Lars-Olof Nilsson, and Prof. Ueli Angst) for their wonderful talks and to the attendees for joining the fruitful discussion! The RILEM TC 313-MMS is working on this important topic of moisture in concrete. We invite you to join us if you have a similar interest, no matter where you work (universities, research institutes, industries, etc.) or where you are from! Please find more information about the TC http://rb.gy/5uxk3f RILEM Association
It's been a busy week at the RILEM Association Annual Week 2024. The 78th RILEM Association Annual Week 2024 is now over. Thanks to Alexandra Bertron and the team at INSA Toulouse - Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Toulouse for organising such a wonderful #conference and hosting us. Our group was well represented at the RILEM Annual Week 2024. Snapshots below: Xiulin Chen and Shishir Mundra were part of the kick-off meeting of the newly formed RILEM TC CUC (Carbon dioxide uptake by concrete during and after service life), led by Gregor Guth (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung) and Susan Andrea Bernal Lopez (University of Leeds). Ueli Angst gave a talk "The steel-concrete interface" focussed on the moisture conditions and its influence of the long term durability of reinforced concrete structures, in the special session dedicated to RILEM TC-313 MMS - led by Zhidong Zhang (ETH Zürich). Fabio Enrico Furcas presented his collaborative (with Empa) work on the "Corrosion behaviour of steel in Mg-based binders". Fabio Enrico Furcas also had a poster on the "The influence of silica on the formation of corrosion products in cementitious systems". Xiulin Chen presented her ongoing PhD work "The potential of bio-mediated #CO2 sequestration in cementitious systems", at the conference as well as in TC CUC. Shishir Mundra presented his work on the "The role of interfacial voids on the corrosion of steel in reinforced concrete - peculiarities and relevance" and "Navigating the complexities of Fe(II) and Fe(III) redox state interactions in understanding corrosion in concrete. Additionally, Shishir also gave a plenary talk on the outcomes of RILEM TC-283 CAM (Chloride ingress in alkali-activated materials), led by Arnaud Castel. Zhidong Zhang presented his work "Effects of moisture transport on durability of steel reinforced concrete: Work proposed by RILEM TC-313 MMS" as a poster.
