This week, the 43rd DLR parabolic flight campaign will take off aboard the Airbus A310 ZERO-G, showcasing pioneering experiments in microgravity: ✈️ TEMPUS, led by P. Heintzmann from DLR MP Köln, will explore how metals behave when processed without a container in microgravity, providing insights into material properties like viscosity and thermal expansion. ✈️ ChemFront, directed by Karin Schwarzenberger from Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), Technische Universität Dresden and University of Szeged will study how particles form in chemical reactions in flowing liquids, with potential applications in CO2 capture and industrial processes. ✈️ BC-Spheroids, led by Prof. Dr. med. Daniela Grimm and Dr. Herbert Shulz from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, will investigate how microgravity affects breast cancer cell behavior, aiming to identify new biomarkers for treatment. ✈️ Granular Rheology in Space, led by Jonathan Kollmer from Universität Duisburg-Essen, will study how lunar dust flows under lunar gravity, crucial for future missions to the Moon. ✈️ COMPACT and AID, led by Prof. Dr. André Melzer from Universität Greifswald, will use a new plasma chamber to study the behavior of dust particles in space and develop real-time AI data analysis tools. ✈️ THERMOELECTRIC CONVECTION, led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Egbers from Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg of Technology, will explore fluid convection under electric fields in microgravity, advancing heat transfer technologies. ✈️ KORDYGA, led by Prof. Kirsten Harth from Technische Hochschule Brandenburg, will investigate collisions and dynamics in granular gases, similar to those found in space environments. ✈️ Magnetic Surface Stress Pump, led by Thomas Imhülse from ZARM and University of Bremen, will test a ferrofluid-based pump for satellite thermal management in space. ✈️ RUTH, composed of Prof. Sherif El Sheikh, Prof. Volker Busskamp, Dr. Christian Liemersdorf and Dr. I. Shröder, from Faculty of Applied Natural Sciences - TH Köln, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and DLR KP-ME will study how microgravity impacts brain function, aiming to counter cognitive decline in astronauts. ✈️ DALERA, led by Johannes Windisch from TU Dresden, will test bioprinting technologies for producing tissues like skin in space, a key step toward independent medical care during long-duration missions. ✈️ LADA, led by Thorsten Pöschel from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, will test laser wire welding in weightlessness, a crucial process for building and repairing structures in space. 🇫🇷 Saviez-vous que l’impesanteur peut affecter l’efficacité des médicaments dans l’espace ? En février-mars 2022, lors de la 62e campagne de vols paraboliques scientifiques du CNES, une expérience innovante a été réalisée à bord de l’Airbus A310 ZERO-G pour étudier comment cette impesanteur influence la pharmacologie des médicaments. Bien que les médicaments soient utilisés depuis les débuts de la conquête spatiale, notre connaissance de leur efficacité en vol spatial reste limitée. Cette étude vise à simplifier la collecte et l'analyse des échantillons en impesanteur, ouvrant la voie à des traitements plus personnalisés pour les astronautes. 🇬🇧 Estonia 🇪🇪 flies in 0G! After Portugal 🇵🇹 paved the way with the Dia de l’Astronauta initiative, 10 young Estonians had the incredible opportunity to experience a zero-gravity flight in France aboard our Airbus A310 ZERO-G, as part of a similar school space competition in partnership with the @Estonian Space Office and the Science Centre AHHAA Foundation.    Rasmus and Elisabeth, two of the participants, shared their impressions with great enthusiasm: "It was a complete shock! What we felt was indescribable. We finally understood how to move in zero gravity." The students also experienced Martian gravity, offering them a fascinating glimpse of what astronauts may one day feel on Mars!    This project, which required six months of preparation for them, included physical tests, personality assessments, and professional skills training. "We learned so much about ourselves," the students revealed. And the adventure doesn’t stop there! Rasmus and Elisabeth are now sharing their experience in schools to inspire other young people to get interested in space and scientific studies.   At Novespace, we are thrilled to have supported and facilitated this initiative. Après le Portugal🇵🇹, ayant ouvert la voie avec l’initiative Dia de l’astronauta, 10 premiers jeunes estoniens ont eu l'opportunité incroyable de vivre un vol en apesanteur en France à bord de notre Airbus A310 ZERO-G, dans le cadre d'un concours spatial scolaire similaire en partenariat avec l'Agence spatiale estonienne (EAS) et le Centre scientifique AHHAA.    Après le vol, Rasmus et Elisabeth, deux des participants, ont partagé leurs impressions avec enthousiasme : « Un choc complet ! Ce qu’on a ressenti était indescriptible. On a enfin compris comment se déplacer en apesanteur. » Les élèves ont également expérimenté la gravité martienne, leur offrant un aperçu fascinant des sensations que pourraient un jour vivre les astronautes sur Mars !    Ce projet a nécessité six mois de formation pour les élèves, incluant des tests physiques, de personnalité et des compétences professionnelles. « Nous avons appris tellement de choses sur nous-mêmes », ont confié les élèves. Cette aventure ne s'arrête pas là, car Rasmus et Elisabeth partagent désormais leur expérience dans les écoles pour inspirer d'autres jeunes à s'intéresser à l'espace et aux études scientifiques.   Chez Novespace, nous sommes ravis d’avoir pu accueillir et faciliter cette initiative et que ce soit scientifique, ingénieur ou astronaute, nous avons hâte de voir ce que deviendront ces primo volants dans les années à venir.
