The construction of a 3.5MwP #solarplant on our #VigoHospital’s roofs started, placing it among the largest installations of its kind within a #healthcare building in Europe. #Meridiam has been the main shareholder in Vigo Hospital since 2021, and has been introducing changes in order to achieve excellence in its #performance since then: the 347,600m2 #publichospital complex has a current 2,000 bed capacity serving a population of 600,000 people. The asset includes three hospitals: the new Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital (1,465 beds), Meixoeiro Hospital (422 beds) and the Nicolás Peña Hospital (120 beds) and the Project provides the operation of 12 non-clinical services as well. The construction of over 5,400 panels will guarantee the self-production for more than 20% of the Hospital's total annual electrical energy needs which, in conjunction with the already existing solar panels and the heat production by two biomass boilers, brings the premises closer to our collective objective of emissions reduction by 2030. In addition, young Galician breed Goats are contributing in our commitment to environmental stewardship and #sustainablepractices. They will help manage vegetation in an eco-friendly way, reducing the need for mechanical mowing and chemical herbicides, promoting a healthy ecosystem, and encouraging a variety of plant and animal life at the same time that would reduce our carbon footprint. Meridiam reached Financial Close for the new #extension of the #Firenzetramway network in Italy, which it manages and operates since 2016. The new line (Linea 3.2.1) will connect the city centre of #Firenze with the town of Bagno a Ripoli (approx. 55k inhabitants), located south-east of the capital of Tuscany. Over 7 km long, it is expected to convey approximately 11 million additional passengers per year. Much more than a simple extension, this new line will provide a much wider network to the suburbs and the entire Firenze metropolitan area. All along the new line, new #greenareas and the planting of hundreds of trees are planned, as well as the construction of cycle paths, and interchange car parks. Clean, #economical and #safe, Firenze’s tramway not only provides a solution to improve #publictransport and relieve road traffic congestion but meets the municipality’s #urbansustainablemobility needs and ambition. Popular with the inhabitants of Firenze, the tramway is today used by more than 36 million passengers per year and contributes to a significant reduction in car congestion – more than 10,000 vehicles every day – as well as by 14 000 tons of CO2 emissions in the city per year. https://lnkd.in/ebEscsPP

#Meridiam has recently reached financial close on the #Aragon Roads project in #Spain, which consists of the upgrading, rehabilitation and maintenance for 25 years of an existing 183 km #road located in the province of Teruel in Aragon between the towns of Andorra (Teruel) and Mora de Rubielos. Construction will start at the end of 2024 and should be completed in the first half of 2027, although some sections will be completed earlier.   The rehabilitation and reconstruction of these roads is expected to reduce overall travel time by 20% and increase #safety by improving #infrastructurestandards. It will also contribute to the region’s #growth and the expansion and diversification of regional #economicactivities, especially tourism, agriculture and agribusiness. To minimise the use of new resources and reduce overall CO2 emissions, the #recycling and #reuse of approximately 30% of the existing asphalt pavement will be part of the project specifications and requirements.
