The 3 key points that came out of this proposal: > Daily ledger reconciliation: the new rule would require banks to either maintain or have direct access to detailed ledgers of fintech-managed “For Benefit Of” (FBO) accounts to ensure daily reconciliation and transparency > Real-time fund tracking: accurate ledgers would allow banks to track customer funds in real-time, helping ensure quick distribution or protection under deposit insurance should a fintech partner fail > Preventing another “Synapse”: the proposal aims to prevent a repeat of the Synapse failure, where a lack of proper ledger management led to customers losing access to their funds. It is also worth mentioning that the rule has garnered unanimous support from the FDIC board members. You can now try our transaction modeling language directly in your browser! Our new Numscript playground is live, packed with fun examples to play with: 👉 A payment involving vouchers and a user's prepaid balance 👉 A complex funds destination scenario where the customer gets cash back 👉 A configurable user credit balance spending transaction But you’ll quickly see by trying it yourself that you can create so much more, bringing your most complex flow-of-funds logic—and turning it into a few lines of magic, replacing hundreds of opaque and error-prone custom code, that engineers otherwise have to maintain over and over. We initially created our own programming language, Numscript, as a way to deal with complex transactions in our Ledger product. It is also now graduating as a standalone language, that you can bolt on top of your existing ledgering system—with more natively supported backends to come. Enterprise products have a longstanding history of opacity and poor discoverability. We’ve chosen to build an open-source since day one, and this new Numscript version is yet another demonstration of our commitment to making the internet financial infrastructure more extensible and modular.
