Time to Pick! The harvest at CHANDON California is underway with Head Winemaker, Pauline Lhote expecting “an outstanding, high quality 2024 crop” following a wet winter and warm summer. She called the first pick at our Yountville vineyard in the cool hours around midnight on August 7. United with her winemaking team under the stars, Pauline fittingly noted, “Galileo’s famous quote ‘Wine is sunlight, held together by water’ perfectly sums up the 2024 Napa growing season. Plentiful water and sunshine are a classic recipe for exceptional California sparkling wines - and we had both in abundance this year!” From now until September 8, CHANDON California is offering a variety of harvest experiences where visitors can walk the vineyards, pick clusters at perfect ripeness and sample the nectar that will become the 2024 Chandon harvest as they explore our art of winegrowing and why we harvest under the stars. The year’s record-breaking July heatwave underscores the importance of sustainable viticulture practices to safeguard the terroir for future generations. “Our goal is always to learn from the past and plan for the future. All of our new plantings, solar panels, and other farming updates at Chandon are the result of meticulous research to ensure we can continue growing the highest quality fruit even as weather conditions and climatic changes get less predictable,” Pauline Lhote added. Harvest time at CHANDON China! This year, grape picking began on July 30, a week ahead of our estimate due to a heatwave during growing season. Thanks to precision and hand harvesting, the grape quality is excellent, showing a harmonious balance between fruity flavors and crisp acidity. Our newly fermented Chardonnays exhibit vivid aromas of citrus, green apple, pear, peach, and white flowers. The Pinot Noirs are surprisingly very open with intense aromas of strawberry, cherry, cranberry. Crisp, roundness and good complexity. The promise of a great vintage ahead!   A pioneer of sparkling wine in China – and the first French-owned sparkling wine house in Ningxia, the country’s top premium winemaking region – we continue to embrace innovation and responsible farming. Since CHANDON China’s inception in 2021, we have pioneered regenerative agriculture in the region and will receive our Organic farming certification as we celebrate our 10th growing season this year!   In our Estate director Su Long’s words, “Learn from the past and plan for the future.
