Environmental dumping of cooling equipment is the practice of selling outdated, inefficient cooling equipment—often using obsolete refrigerants—in markets of vulnerable developing countries. These products, which fail to meet efficiency and environmental standards in developed countries, find their way into regions where regulations are less stringent. Kofi A. Currently, there are over 90+ billion tonnes CO2e of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and HFCs currently contained within equipment or are expected to enter the market by 2100. This is more than twice the entire planet’s annual carbon dioxide emissions. Lifecycle refrigerant management (LRM) is crucial for reducing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) because it addresses the entire lifecycle of refrigerants, from production to disposal. Ana Maria Kleymeyer, Delegate, Federated States of Micronesia speaks about how Lifecycle Refrigerant management (LRM) and energy efficiency are being discussed at #COP13MOP36.
