Le Bureau international des poids et mesures (BIPM), une organisation intergouvernementale, a été créé par la Convention du Mètre et a son siège près de Paris, en France. Il est financé conjointement par ses États membres et fonctionne sous la supervision exclusive du CIPM. Son mandat consiste à fournir la base d'un système unique et cohérent de mesures à travers le monde, traçable au Système international d'unités (SI). Cette tâche revêt de nombreuses formes, de la diffusion directe des unités (comme c'est le cas pour la masse et le temps) à la coordination par le biais de comparaisons internationales des étalons de mesure nationales (comme dans le domaine de l'électricité et de la radiation ionisante). Le BIPM compte un personnel international de plus de 70 personnes, et son statut vis-à-vis du gouvernement français est similaire à celui d'autres organisations intergouvernementales basées à Paris.

    Experts from various National Metrology Institutes (NMI) convened to discuss developments in measurement science—from quantum technology standards to the FAIR principles for data management in metrology—at #BIPM's recent two day NMI Directors’ Workshop. One of the most popular sessions was on the intersection of #AI and #metrology, focusing on how precise measurement can enhance the control and quality of AI systems. 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐰: 🎬 Dr Agnes Delaborde from LNE's presentation "Enhancing Control of Generative AI through Metrology" focused on addressing AI bias, uncertainty and the importance of certification to reinforce accuracy and trustworthiness in AI outputs.     𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐂 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 The #BIPM and #NIST have successfully conducted a new pilot study, marking a significant advancement in the accuracy and reliability of ac voltage comparisons. This achievement represents a major step forward for on-site comparisons of ac voltages. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞: ➡Stability and reproducibility: The NIST JAWS system allowed the BIPM PJVS to be tested under a wide variety of configurations, pushing the limits of reliability of the differential sampling setup. ➡ Breakthrough in uncertainty: For the first time, the study achieved a Type A uncertainty (a measure of statistical uncertainty) of a few parts in 10⁹ for a 10 Hz sine wave at 2 V rms. At 1 kHz, a relative level of 2 × 10⁻⁷ was reached.     Honoured to be participating in the Workshop on 'Global and National Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Initiatives' at KRISS, Korea. The Workshop brings together experts in GHG measurement networks, instrumentation and standards and is identifying progress and collaborative opportunities to determine GHG emissions through concentration measurement both at urban and global scales.     The origins of the metre explained on French radio 📻. Céline Fellag Ariouet (#BIPM) participated in the radio show Sciences Chrono on France Culture, hosted by Antoine Beauchamp, on 27 September 2024. The show was dedicated to a pioneering geodetic survey undertaken by Jean-Baptiste Delambre and Pierre Méchain in the 1790s that formed the basis of the original definition of the #metre. The radio show provided an opportunity to give listeners a history of the BIPM and the plans for the celebration of its 150th anniversary in 2025.     The #BIPM and NIST (USA) are collaborating on the development of a new generation of Kibble balance. This joint work is being carried out in response to a recommendation of the Consultative Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (CCM) for more collaboration between the different Kibble balance teams. As part of this collaboration, NIST welcomed Dr Franck Bielsa from the BIPM Kibble balance group for five months in their team. The main purpose of the collaboration is the further development of the Kibble balance which is part of the Quantum Electro-Mechanical Metrology Suite (QEMMS) of NIST, which can provide quantum voltage, resistance, current, mass and force dissemination directly traceable to the new SI. The aim of the new generation of small-size Kibble balances is to provide mass realization in the 10 g – 200 g range. #metrology https://lnkd.in/eRqpX_fT
