This inspired my commitment to sustainability, which drives my research and personal life. As divers, we have a duty to protect the ocean and advocate for change. While system change is crucial, individual actions can significantly impact ocean awareness and advocacy. The dive community, including manufacturers, should be engaged in these efforts. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚'𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 We are very proud to have supported Coral Guardian since its creation in 2012. This international non-profit organization has been working with local communities to protect coral ecosystems around Hatamin Island (Indonesia) and Punta de la Mona (Spain). Their latest project, “REEL Kilifi” (Restoring Reef Ecosystems for Enhanced Livelihoods) in Kuruwitu, just 20 km south of Kilifi, Kenya, aims to identify and test sustainable, replicable, and effective coral reef restoration practices, considering the cultural and environmental context. The reef has been severely impacted by climate change, overfishing, pollution, and the use of non-selective gear. A massive bleaching event in the 1990s led to the degradation of 50% to 90% of Kenya's coral reefs. In June, the Coral Guardian team traveled to Kenya to deliver Aqualung equipment to the Oceans Alive Foundation and train local fishermen and women. Over the past few weeks, Coral Guardian has been working closely with local fishing communities to identify restoration sites and select fishers who will be trained in coral restoration. The first coral restoration operations began in August. The goals are ambitious: to protect and restore 70 hectares of reef, at least double the fish population, and support local communities. #Aqualunggroup #CoralGuardian #ecosystems #ocean #sustainable

Every year, millions of sharks are killed for their fins, threatening their survival and that of our oceans. Working from a modest garage in the small mill town Bolton in Lancashire, Ken Smith Ainscough and Eric Partington, create the company APEKS, combining the first letters of their names - K,S,A,E,P. Ken engineered his concepts into reality, while Eric's love of technology drove business growth. Apeks began by fabricating weight belt buckles, but throughout the 1970s, they continued to innovate. With a rich heritage of local engineering, Apeks hired specialist talent and kept manufacturing in-house to maintain the high quality expected by the market.
