I'm on my second iPhone 7 Plus (Black - 256 Gb) after I got the first one exchanged because it was performing poorly with RAM : frequent app reloads, widgets would reload every time and safari would be unable to stay connected on websites and ask for connection every time you return on the tab.

The iPhone was acting as if it had 1 Gb of RAM and not 3 Gb.

It turned out I noticed I had all the time important parts of "Free" memory, sometimes up to 600 Mb of free RAM which seemed unused.

On the diagnostics side, it noticed I had a lot of "JetsamEvent" (Settings > Privacy > Diagnostics & Usage > Data), up to 50 a day, which in my understanding is an incident where iOS empties RAM because it thinks it is full.

Anyway, I exchanged the iPhone after the genius bar acknowledged there seemed to be a fault with my unit, waited more than a month for a replacement to be available, and it turned out the new unit almost has the same issues !

It's definitely less severe (widgets don't reload and apps reload a lot but not as often, and the amount of "JetsamEvent" is more like 20 a day than 50 a day...) but it's still there.

I don't reallly know what to do except living with it, the iPhone is far from unusable and performs normally on other aspects. It's just that it reloads apps a lot and doesn't keep apps in memory for a very long time.

Needless to say I tried setting the iPhone as new and nothing changed.

My iPad Pro 12.9 doesn't behave at all like this and can keep an app in memory for a very long time without reloading it. I definitely can notice the 4 Gb of RAM whereas I really don't notice the 3 Gb of RAM of my iPhone 7 Plus)

Has anyone experienced the same issues with their iPhone 7 Plus ?

Could it be the applications you are using?

Definitely not experience any issues you are. I have the iPhone 7 Plus in 32 GB.

Haven't had any of these issues on my 128GB 7+. It really sounds like an app you're running or possible some issue brought along from your backup(if you restored from a backup).

On the first iPhone I setup as new and it did not change a single thing in the reloads...

The new iPhone is definitely better than the first on the same backup (the new one) so there was definitely a hardware issue on the first one.

Plus the battery on the new iPhone is far more efficient (the old one was often hot on the right side, the new one is always cool).

Maybe there's an app causing the bug. What is very strange is iOS deciding to free up RAM space when there's no need to and plenty of free RAM left (most common scenario : memory widget says 250 Mb Free space then goes down to 650 Mb Free space on its own...) It never goes under 250 Mb Free space.

It's just that the iPhone 7 Plus performs very poorly in multitasking compared the iPhone 6s Plus I had before...

You only use 2 or 3 apps and when you come back is the first app everything is reloaded, you need to start all over what you were doing or writing...

Curious what does it look like in your settings / app / battery usage stats? What are the apps you primarily use? I had similar issues as you did (freezing/lagging/apps crashing left and right) awhile ago and I pruned out a bunch of old outdated apps and there problems went away.

I must admit the battery on the new iPhone is outstanding, I'm getting 9-10 hours usage (first iPhone 7 Plus was more 6-7 hours) so I'm not so sure there's an impact of my issue on battery.

What is odd is the huge number of crash reports I have in Diagnotics (dozens a day), on my first appointment at the Genius Bar they told me it was definitely not normal to have so many. The problem is identifying what causes them.

I used an 7 Plus and a regular 7 . I didn't notice a huge difference. I also tested an SE versus 7. And SE is faster than IPhone 7

Wait for the 7S Plus or 8 Plus

Previous I use iPhone 7 Plus 32 GB - no such issue
Now using iPhone 7 Plus 128 GB - no such issue
My sister also using iPhone 7 Plus 128 GB - no such issue

But one of my colleague using iPhone 7 Plus 256 GB - everything load very slow compare with mine one (the 32 GB and 128 GB) and she only have few apps install where I install a lots. I don't see anyone using 256 GB already so no idea is this 256 GB issue or not. I do didn't check whether her phone keep reloading the widget or not. But some members here also using 256 GB and no such issue, so high possible is the apps you use cause it.

Yeah right, and then you woke up :D

SE actually may be faster than 7 in real world use.

9.3.3 with a9/2gb and that low res screen is a power combo

10.1.1 w a10/3gb is no slouch either but I feel like iOS 10 is clumsier and it has that 1080p screen to power

Its not going to happen in real world or fake world use :D
Neither the ram or cpu/gpu is faster and that's a fact.

That is a fact. Won't dispute it. It benches better too.

But a9 with 9.3.3 may be better optimized in day to day. Especially since a10 isn't as drastic as a8 to a9 It's felt
That way in my experience. And I have a 7+ I really like too so I don't feel I'm biased. Both are jailbroken as well.

But people aren't kidding when they say it's a beast at the very least. It
Was faster than my 6s+ objectively in use and benches were neck in neck.

A9 for sub 720p is like a rocket ship engine in a go cart.

No doubt it's a solid phone the SE. And on iOS 9 it runs smooth.

Honestly iOS 9 might be where the edge is,

Both devices on iOS 10 I'm sure you're right 7/7+ probably smokes it by a little/bit.

I wish I could say it was THAT much better in performance since I paid almost twice the price of
My SE. But it makes up in other ways like dual speakers (and much better bottom speaker than 6s+ was I came from), p3 screen without intruding dust in the corner unlike 6s+, dual cams, force touch and haptic home button, more ram on paper, 128 vs 64, and matte black aesthetic to rinse myself of the space grey 6+/6s+ boredom and being on latest major iOS version (and a vessel for watchOS 3.1 which is way better than 2.x) since I may never upgrade my SE from 9

My favorite things about SE are:
1) one might assume camera is junk or mediocre from meh screen quality compared to latest iPhones, its same camera as 6s though and takes spectacular photos that come to life on my iPad Pro 9.7, 2016 MBP, or 7+,
2) one might assume meh performance from its old school body and form, and it screams performance
3) one might assume bad battery since a small battery, but it charges comparatively quick, and holds a charge very well with A9 efficiencies, it laps my 7+ in battery and believe it did with 6s+ also when I had it,

Just for fun, I ran Geekbench 4 on them in jailbroken state with substrate running (and nearly double the tweaks on SE vs. 7+, on average, but no App Store apps running in background to be consistent on that -- and I wouldn't attribute it to those additional tweaks running, the difference in speed, I would just attribute it to difference in speed)
9.3.3 SE vs 10.1.1 7+

~27% single core/26% multi improvements is quite good, I think that's a testament to software being the limiting factor and lack of optimizations vs. A-series advancements, since their R&D on chips is nothing short of incredible imo. They just keep throwing more hardware at 'the problem' which is always OK since its the reason to upgrade iPhones, except without addressing the elephant in the room.
