Bartholomew de Faulaw and Samuel de Faulaw were witnesses to a charter in favor of the House of Soltre between 1214 and 1240 (Soltre, p. 19), and Bartholomew appears again within the same period as witness to the confirmation of the land of Swaynystoun (Swanston) to Soltre (ibid., p. 26). Adam de Fawlaw witnessed the grant of a nativus (serf) to the same house between 1235 and 1258 (ibid., p. 26). George de Falow was provost of Edinburgh in 1421 (Seals Supp., 356), and may be the George Falowe, burgess there in 1453 (Rot. Scot.). Another George Falow (Fallawe, Fawlo, Faulo, or Falowe), a Scottish merchant who had warrants of safe conduct to travel in England between 1426 and 1453 is doubtless the George Faulau who was one of the Scottish ambassadors to proclaim the truce within the liberties of Berwick and Roxburgh in 1457 (Bain, IV, 990, 1187, 1230, 1252, 1281, etc.). In 1438 as George of Faulawe, merchant of Scotland, he also had a safe conduct to go to Holland and Zeland to notify the late truce to the Scots there (ibid., 1110). The tenement of George de Faulow or Faulo in Edinburgh is mentioned in 1472 and 1476 (REG., 398,411). Agnes Fawlaw, wife of Robert Lauder of the Bass, granted an annuity of 10 marks for supporting a chaplain in St. Andrews Kirk, North Berwick, in 1491 (Caledonia, II, p. 517). The seal of William Faula of Wells, Roxburghshire, 1544, reads, S. Wililmi. Favla, de. Vel (Macdonald, 907), Johnne Faulaw and Watt Faulaw were entered before the Privy Council in 1567 (RPC., I, p. 588), and Lard Fala and Janies Fala were tenants under the Abbey of Kelso in the same year (Kelso, p. 527,528). David Fala was a maltman in Edinburgh in 1633 (Edinb. Marr.). Faula 1502, Faulowe 1439; Fallo.
