How to use a 'barbell approach' to beat market uncertainty

As the market gears up for a Federal Reserve policy decision and May's Consumer Price Index (CPI) report signals that inflation may be cooling, its trajectory could change. JPMorgan Chief ETF Strategist Jon Maier joins Wealth! to give insight into the top ETF picks to protect against uncertainty in the market. "What I would do is have a barbell approach. So have some portion of your portfolio exposed to growth quality names, names that are companies that are less reliant on the capital markets because obviously rates are high, companies that have strong cash flows, that have good earnings and are less susceptible to the business cycle. So quality names, which I think a large cap blend would make sense. Also on the short side, on the fixed income side, we have a fund called JPST (JPST). JPST has run out of our liquidity group and has a yield of over 5%," Maier tells Yahoo Finance. For more expert insight and the latest market action, click here to watch this full episode of Wealth! Commodities: Why investors should take a diversified approach

Crude oil prices (BZ=F, CL=F) hit a four-month low after OPEC+ extended production cuts into 2025. In such uncertain conditions, investors looking to gain exposure to oil face challenges. VettaFi Head of Research Todd Rosenbluth joins Wealth! to discuss strategies for investing in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to protect against this commodity volatility. Rosenbluth notes that ETF investors are gravitating toward "more broadly diversified commodity-oriented ETFs." He recommends "diversified commodity strategy ETFs," such as the Aberdeen Standard Bloomberg All (BCI), as a means for individuals "to get the benefits of diversification" while shielding themselves from market volatility. "Many folks are nervous. They're looking for modest gains, up about 5%, or even down," Rosenbluth tells Yahoo Finance. "And so what we're finding is even the more free cash-flow, more broadly diversified ETFs are gaining traction." Is energy the gateway into the AI trade?

With the AI boom propelling markets, investors might seek alternative avenues to capitalize on this emerging trend. CNIC Funds CEO Tim Kramer joins Wealth! to explore why the energy sector could present an enticing entry point into the AI trade. Kramer emphasizes that electricity "is the most consumed commodity in the US." He draws a parallel between the AI trade and the gold rush, suggesting that while gold was initially the hot commodity, attention soon shifted toward the companies or individuals that supplied the gold rush and trade—a similar pattern he anticipates with AI and electricity. "Given that backdrop on how much more electricity this is going to take, we think that we're in a very interesting position to give people an opportunity to get exposure to that piece of the sector, which is the increase in electricity consumption," Kramer tells Yahoo Finance.
