Exciting two days behind as I joined our CFO, Marc-Simon Schaar CA, and the Investor Relations team in London to connect with investors and analysts. With a full agenda, we discussed important topics impacting Outokumpu and our industry. One of the main topics of these days was undoubtedly U.S. presidential elections. Outokumpu has a strong foothold in North America, with our own plant in Calvert, Alabama. The U.S. market remains strategically attractive for us over the long term, and we see a resilient future for the American steel industry. We are happy to announce that Outokumpu’s former and first CEO Eero Mäkinen is being recognized for his pioneering work in the mining industry and inducted to the U.S. National Mining Hall of Fame on November 2. 🥳 He will be the first Finnish inductee among such notable members as Alfred Nobel and the U.S. President Herbert Hoover. 🇫🇮 Eero Mäkinen was the embodiment of the innovation spirit at Outokumpu and was instrumental in development of flash smelting technology for copper production in the 1940s. Even today, this process is the best in energy efficiency among the available smelting methods – which also helped tackle the energy challenges in post-war Finland. The same spirit of innovation is as present at Outokumpu today as it was in 1940 – and is a big part in how we support our customers with a high-quality product that has a carbon footprint up to 75% lower than the global industry average.
