Get to know the faces behind the titles in our #lifeatfinnair series, where our Finnair team members tell us about their journey. ✈️: Who are you and what do you do at Finnair? I am Annika Moilanen, a Software Developer at Finnair. ✈️: How long have you worked here, and what made you apply? I started as a Cabin Crew Member in 2015, an Instructor in 2018 and made a career change to IT in 2022. I applied to my current role while a student needing an internship and ended up becoming a full-time developer. ✈️: What do you like the most about working at Finnair? The best thing about working at Finnair is the people — we all share the love of traveling and are, I might say, one of the most multicultural companies in Finland. But it's still very Nordic, which feels like home. ✈️: What’s your favourite Finnair destination? My favorite Finnair destination for holidays is Thailand, and as a Cabin Crew Japan. ✈️: Can you tell us something most people don’t know about you? I first started to work at Finnair when I was 18, at Helsinki Airport. HeVa 4eva! ✈️: What tip would you give to someone considering a career in aviation? A career in aviation is thrilling, with multiple possibilities for a career — or even to change careers, like I did. Aviation is like the pulse of the world; we get to see the front row of world events, make customers happy and have the most adventurous colleagues ever.

I’m Vera Viljaniemi, a Content Specialist at Aurinkomatkat, a subsidiary of Finnair. I create content for the award-winning Aurinkomatkat mobile application and various social media channels. ✈️: How long have you worked here, and what made you apply? I’ve been with the company for about 2.5 years. During my studies, I already knew that I wanted to work for either Aurinkomatkat or Finnair. When I was graduating and saw an open position at Aurinkomatkat, I knew it was my opportunity, and I didn’t hesitate to apply. ✈️: What do you like the most about working at Finnair? The combination of working with great colleagues, having meaningful work, and opportunities for growth is what truly resonates with me. In our hybrid work environment, collaboration between the team and management is key. It’s inspiring to see how much trust and responsibility we’re given. Being surrounded by professionals from around the world and having the chance to keep developing in my role keeps me motivated. ✈️: What’s your favourite Finnair destination? I love travelling, so choosing just one favourite destination is quite challenging. However, if I had to pick, it would be Thailand. I've visited the country over 20 times, and I'm excited to travel there twice this year as well. ✈️: Can you tell us something most people don’t know about you? Two of my family members also work at Finnair: my mother and my sister’s fiancé. Despite this, we’ve never had the chance to have lunch at the office together. ✈️: What tip would you give to someone considering a career in aviation? I’d suggest getting an education that sets you up for success in the aviation industry. Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences was a great choice for me; it provided the skills and confidence to tackle real-world challenges. In aviation, it’s all about staying curious and embracing new technologies, as the industry is always changing.

In September, Finnair carried 1,015,600 passengers, which was 10.2% more than in September 2023. The overall capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometres (ASK), increased in September by 9.0% year-on-year as additional narrow-body capacity was deployed by Finnair after the wet lease-outs to British Airways ended in March 2024. The challenge of decarbonising aviation requires collaboration across industries. This year, we have had the privilege of being on board Embraer's Energia Advisory Group, alongside our regional traffic operator Nordic Regional Airlines Oy, N°RRA , working to solve the critical challenges of sustainable aviation. The group comprises experienced aviation experts—airlines, lessors, suppliers, and more—who offer operational insights to guide Embraer in their development of more sustainable aircraft. Through this collaboration, we have been working together to define and establish the real-world requirements for emission-free and commercially viable sustainable aviation.
