EW's editorial guidelines Published on December 16, 2024 12:31PM EST Comments Once again, HBO is welcoming viewers to The White Lotus — but this time, the luxury hotel is located in Thailand. At long last, we have the first trailer for season 3 of the acclaimed anthology series from writer/director Mike White. After previous seasons were set in Hawaii and Italy, this next batch of episodes takes its tourist characters to southeast Asia, hoping to relieve some stress in the form of meditation, drugs, and food — though the latter especially may take some getting used to for these new arrivals. "Gluten-free rice and coconut balls? What are we at, a f---ing fat farm?" Rick Hatchett (Walton Goggins) angrily asks his younger girlfriend Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood). Fallout boy: Walton Goggins is reaching new heights — and audiences — with his Ghoul-ish character Rick is described as "a rugged man with a chip on his shoulder," while Chelsea is a "free spirit." Their visit to Thailand seems designed to relieve stress, but that's always a double-edged sword, as this trailer makes clear. "Everyone runs from pain, towards pleasure," another character says. "But they get there only to find more pain." Other new characters entering the show this season include Kate (Leslie Bibb), Laurie (Carrie Coon), and Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), three long-time friends who are together on a girls’ trip after not having seen each other for a while. Then there's the Ratliff family: wealthy businessman and father Timothy (Jason Isaacs), mother Victoria (Parker Posey), and children Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook), and Lochlan (Sam Nivola). Meanwhile, Natasha Rothwell reprises her season 1 role as Belinda, a spa manager from the White Lotus' Hawaii location who is visiting the Thailand franchise on an "exchange program." She feels like "something good's gonna come out of this" as she makes eye contact with a handsome hotel worker. Meghann Fahy accidentally kicked Jennifer Coolidge in the face while filming pivotal White Lotus scene Viewers may even learn more about how the White Lotus organization works, since Lek Patravadi will be playing Sritala, one of the owners of the White Lotus and the "visionary" behind its wellness program. But as we know from previous seasons, The White Lotus isn't all fun and relaxation. There's always at least one death involved, and in this trailer, we see someone waving a gun around, a snake preparing to strike, and a body being wheeled on a gurney, among other ominous images. Remember that White previously told Entertainment Weekly that season 3 is going to be "longer, bigger, crazier" than previous seasons. "What the f--- is this place?" Someone asks towards the end. We'll all find out in the new year, when The White Lotus season 3 premieres Sunday, Feb. 16 on HBO and Max. Watch the trailer above, and check out a few preview images below.
