TV Drag Race winners reveal the state of their crowns: 'I put it on and looked at myself naked' The All Stars 7 queens tell EW which winner's crown was "Mean Girls-ed into a 1,000 little pieces" after she won the title. By Joey Nolfi Joey Nolfi Entertainment Weekly's Oscars expert, 'RuPaul's Drag Race' beat reporter, host of 'Quick Drag' Twitter Spaces, and cohost of 'EW's BINGE' podcast. Almost all of the drag content on this site is my fault (you're welcome). EW's editorial guidelines Published on April 27, 2022 09:00AM EDT Heavy is the head that wears the crown — unless you're Yvie Oddly, whose glistening season 11 tiara was reduced to being "Mean Girls-ed into a 1,000 little pieces" shortly after she won RuPaul's Drag Race. As the upcoming all-winners cast of All Stars 7 tells EW in a video interview for our latest cover story, being a reigning royal doesn't always mean your jewels are guaranteed safe passage along your ascent to queendom. Find out the state of each past winner's crown in the video interview above, and read on for a full breakdown of the craziest things each contestant has done in her tiara — and, yes, it involves nudity! 'RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7' queens pose for EW's cover story. Vijat M for EW (3) Jinkx Monsoon (season 5) "I didn't get a scepter. I was the last season of no scepter, but my crown is on display at my manager's office in L.A., in a little box. It's there for me the moment I can find space for it in my cluttered house. I haven't worn my crown a lot because I'm too scared I'm going to break it, because the night I was crowned in New York, Michelle Visage and Bianca Del Rio put the crown on my head, and then I stood up and walked two steps forward and smashed it into a speaker.... so the very top of it is bent a little bit. After that, I didn't want to wear it ever again because I was too scared I was going to break it. That's why it's in a little glass box that I can't access it anymore." Jinkx Monsoon for EW. Vijat M for EW Monét X Change (All Stars 4) "My scepter is in mint condition. She's still in a box in my storage locker somewhere in Burbank.... and my crown is at home. The top dinged off a little bit, so I need to get it repaired, so, Fierce Drag Jewels, if you're out there, I'd love to get my crown repaired. But, she is 95 percent intact, just a little something missing at the top.... Bob [the Drag Queen] is a very nasty person and one time came to my home and found my crown and damaged it, because he's jealous that I am already a double-crowned winner: Miss Congeniality and an All Stars winner, so he will stop at nothing to degradate my Drag Race legacy." Yvie Oddly (season 11) "I was on tour when I got crowned, so it all just got shipped home. By the time I got back to my house after seeing the world, the crown had already been Mean Girls-ed into a 1,000 little pieces between all the queers in my local community. One part of me is slightly sad about that because you get to see all the pictures of these crowned queens like, 'Yes, I did win this and here's picture to prove it,' but it all boils down to everything I've ever felt about drag, which is: It's not about the things, it's about the significance of what they mean to you. Even though my crown is in 1,000 little pieces, each one of those pieces means I busted my ass. Each one of those pieces represents a skill I taught myself, an hour I spent not sucking dick, and instead, sewing." Yvie Oddly for EW. Vijat M for EW Raja (season 3) "I was in the flimsy crown stage of RuPaul' Drag Race, before they got these beautiful, ornate — I didn't even get a scepter! I joke around and say that mine was made out of tin foil and dry-cleaning wire hangers. It lays in my house somewhere. It's not the sam crown that I got the firs time. It's still sentimental, but it holds a lot of nostalgia for me. I keep it in a special place; it's in a corner in my overly decorated apartment." Shea Couleé (All Stars 5) "My crown and scepter are in my home, the crown is in a plexi box.... so she's just being preserved. She sits underneath a sign that says, 'Work hard and be nice to people.' The craziest thing I've done while wearing my crown, I tried the crown on when I got it and I fully understood the term that heavy is the head that wears the crown, because that bitch hurts. It's not comfy, I wore it for like five minutes and had an indent in my forehead. The craziest thing is I just put it on and looked at myself naked in the mirror and that was about it. I was like, 'Yes, you sexy, naked, crystal bitch. You're a winner baby.'" Shea Couleé explains the state of her crown and scepter in EW's 'All Stars 7' cover shoot. EW Jaida Essence Hall (season 12) "I have won a lot of pageants in the past, so I know how to treat the things that I won and deserve. My crown and scepter are in my house right now sitting high [on] a bookshelf, and right up top is the crown and the scepter across, really beautiful, so when you walk into my house, you'll remember that I'm a winner. It's in good condition honey because I made sure I didn't break it or do anything crazy. You know you have to be careful with really expensive things. The craziest thing I've ever done in my crown and scepter, although it's not crazy, honey, I looked crazy-good if you saw the season 13 announcement of the queens, you knew exactly how delicious I looked in my crown and scepter, and knew exactly why I won it." The Vivienne (RuPaul's Drag Race UK season 1) "My crown and scepter have pride of place in my Vivienne Westwood dining room, squiggle wallpaper everywhere, and I actually bought the jewelry display cabinets from a closing Westwood store in Liverpool, it's all lit up. It's the bougiest place you could ever put a crown and scepter. But, hey, if you win, you may as well show it off." The Vivienne for EW. Vijat M for EW Trinity The Tuck (All Stars 4) "My crown and scepter are put away in a vault under my house, deep underground, so in 30 years, 40 years, when I'm broke, I can hawk that s--- and make that money back. They're still in pretty good condition. It's dainty jewelry, and I'm like a football player when it comes to my drag." RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7 premieres May 20 on Paramount+.
