TV Watch Mary J. Blige show some tough love in Power Book II: Ghost midseason premiere By Derek Lawrence Derek Lawrence I currently write about Fast & Furious, The Office, and Will Smith. One day, I will write Hitch 2. EW's editorial guidelines Published on December 2, 2020 09:45AM EST In an exclusive clip from Sunday's midseason premiere of Power Book II: Ghost, drug queenpin Monet Tejada (played by the Grammy winner) is putting her "spoiled" kids to work. "I liked the idea that there were people in our story that were like, 'Yeah, and?'" creator Courtney Kemp previously told EW of introducing a family openly in the criminal life. "I also wanted people to really see Mary in the way that I see her, which is she's a survivor. Monet is a woman who has survived a lot — her husband is inside and she has inherited his business and he's still in control, she's trying to navigate that. She's also trying to navigate having sons who are men and a daughter who is becoming a woman and trying to teach this girl how to become a woman in the world as you see it. She is based on a whole bunch of women who I've read about or we know about, women who are in the life and become hardened by it, toughened by it." When it comes to what to expect in the freshman drama's final five episodes of the season, Kemp teases that things will get "intense." "All of the relationships get much more complicated," she says. "Tariq has to make some decisions, some familiar faces from Power show back up." When asked if that could include fan favorite Tommy (Joseph Sikora), Kemp coyly answers, "As I've said before and I'll say again: If someone said my name in court about something I didn't do, I would want to talk to them about it." Power Book II: Ghost returns Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Starz.
