Filming sex scenes for film and television are typically more awkward than they appear, but comedy helps. For Kyle MacLachlan‘s own intimate moment with Naomi Watts on Showtime’s Twin Peaks: The Return, he subconsciously brought some humor to it and, in doing so, changed the trajectory of the scene. It’s all in the hands. “Just because of the bed, his hands were sort of bouncing a little bit,” MacLachlan told Couch Surfing host Lola Ogunnaike on PeopleTV. “And the [cinematographer], Peter Deming, came over and said to me, ‘You gotta keep doing the hands. It’s very funny.'” Dougie was the duplicate of MacLachlan’s Agent Dale Cooper made by Cooper’s doppelganger. “Dougie is a character who’s constantly questioning,” MacLachlan described. “Wherever we are, I’m wondering, ‘How is he going to react to this environment and to this situation?’ Because everything is for the first time. He’s like a child or a baby.” As a result, he doesn’t know what to do when in a sexually intimate setting. “He doesn’t know anything,” MacLachlan added. “So he’s just, ‘Wow! What an experience. This sure feels good.’ You know what I mean?” RELATED VIDEO: Kyle MacLachlan couldn’t stop laughing while shooting the desert scene in The Doors Related content: Trailers From Hell tracks down bonkers Kyle MacLachlan sci-fi movie The Hidden Kyle MacLachlan weighs in on Twin Peaks film vs. TV debate Twin Peaks stars break down the revival’s craziest scenes
