Theater Nathan Lane and Andrew Garfield's Angels in America is coming to Broadway The National Theatre production transfers from London By Eric King Published on September 7, 2017 11:05AM EDT Angels in America, in America. The critically acclaimed production of Tony Kushner’s magnum opus that ran at the National Theatre in London is coming to Broadway next year, it was announced Thursday. The stagings of the play’s two parts, Millennium Approaches and Perestroika, about New York City gay men at the precipice of the AIDS crisis, star Andrew Garfield as Prior Walter and Nathan Lane (The Producers) as Roy Cohn. The play will move into the Neil Simon Theatre and will begin its 18-week run on Feb. 23, 2018, with an opening night set for March 21. Garfield and Lane will be staying on for the Broadway move as well as original cast members Susan Brown, Denise Gough, Amanda Lawrence, James McArdle, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett. No word yet on whether Russell Tovey (Looking), who currently plays Joe Pitt, will be announced along with additional casting. Chris Harper will co-produce with director Marianne Elliott (War Horse, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time). After Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes debuted on Broadway in 1993, it won seven Tony awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Close
