EW's editorial guidelines Published on October 23, 2024 09:00PM EDT Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Masked Singer season 12, episode 5, "Barbie Night." There was an explosion of pink, dream cars, big hair, and saccharine over-exuberance on The Masked Singer this week, which was a-okay because it was Barbie Night! To celebrate the iconic doll's 65th anniversary, the Men in Black became the Men in Pink, panelists Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, Rita Ora, Robin Thicke, and Ken Jeong shared their favorite Barbie memories (which ended in a total roasting of Jeong, a.k.a. "Failed Comedian Barbie"), and the remaining Group B contestants sang fitting girl-power anthems. But, best of all, Jeong kicked off the pink-tinged festivities with a performance of "I'm Just Ken" from the movie Barbie that we didn't know we needed in our lives. The hilarious moment culminated in Jeong sitting atop a giant pink horse, making him look comically small in the process. Eat your heart out, Ryan Gosling. Chess Piece on 'The Masked Singer'. Michael Becker/FOX The Masked Singer roasts its panel and reveals Dust Bunny as late-night star The rest of the episode was pretty standard, with performances from the masked celebrities including “Dance the Night” by Dua Lipa (Bluebell), "Miss Independent" by Ne-Yo (Goo), "I’m Every Woman" by Chaka Khan (Chess Piece), and "Skyscraper" by Demi Lovato (Wasp). They all brought their A-game, forcing a tough decision on the panelists and audiences when it came time to vote. Unfortunately, the name of the game is sending someone home every week, and this week, the singer who went home in the Barbie Dream Camper was Chess Piece. Sorry, Barbie, but the panel struggled with their guesses this week, with no one correctly guessing Chess Piece's true identity. McCarthy-Wahlberg picked Serena Williams, Jeong guessed Issa Rae, Ora chose Tyra Banks, and Thicke opted for Misty Copeland. In the end, Emmy-nominated Orange Is the New Black actress, producer, and LGBTQ activist Laverne Cox was unmasked. Checkmate, indeed. There won't be an episode next week (a rerun will air instead), but the following week will feature the Group B Finals in '60s Night. Unless the Ding Dong Keep It On bell is used, this means two people will be going home before we meet the final batch of singers for the season in Group C. The final grouping is set to include the Strawberry Shortcake, Sherlock Hound, Royal Knight, Macaron, and Ice King masks.
