On Monday, officers responded to reports of a stabbing at a property in Southport, England, police said in a statement. A 17-year-old male was detained at the scene where two girls, aged six and seven, were pronounced dead. Police have additionally confirmed the death of a third child, who was 9 years old. The incident occurred at the Hart Space, which was hosting a Swift-themed dance and yoga class for kids. The "Fortnight" singer addressed the tragedy on Tuesday, sharing a solemn statement to social media. Taylor Swift pauses performance to help distressed fan: ‘I can do this all night’ “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock,” Swift wrote in a post on her Instagram Stories. “The loss of life and innocence and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders.” She continued, “These were just little kids at a dance class. Taylor Swift/Instagram On Monday, Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy held a press conference to confirm that nine other children were injured and six are in critical condition, along with two adults. "We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked,” Kennedy said. Per a statement from Merseyside police, officers seized a knife from the 17-year-old, who has been arrested in connection with the stabbing, on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name and urged people against speculating after the name of an innocent person was shared on social media. The incident also earned a response from U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who wrote in a Monday post on X , “Horrendous and deeply shocking news emerging from Southport. My thoughts are with all those affected. I would like to thank the police and emergency services for their swift response. I am being kept updated as the situation develops." In an effort to raise money for the affected families, fans of Swift have kickstarted a fundraiser for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where many of the injured children were rushed to. The “Swifties for Southport” campaign hit £100,000 ($128,000) in less than 24 hours. Swift is currently continuing to tour Europe as part of her ongoing Eras Tour, and will return to London for five nights in August. Close
