Survivor 47 star Sue Smey explains how Jeff Probst helped her sick daughter in exclusive deleted scene

Sue opens up about her past.

Sue Smey has spunk, everyone! And if you don’t believe me, then check out the Survivor 47 exclusive deleted scene above that shows you just how much spunk the 59-year-old flight school owner has.

The scene shows Sue introducing herself to the Tuku tribe while washing off the marooning challenge mud in the water. “So, I'm Sue,” she begins. “I'm from New York. My dad wanted all boys. He got all girls, so I was the tomboy.”

How much of a tomboy is she? “I'm very competitive,” she tells viewers in a confessional interview. “Any racquet sport you give me, I can pretty much beat your ass. But by far, this is the best accomplishment I've ever done. This is just my next stepping stone, and sky's the limit.”

Whoooooooaaaaa, slow down there, pickleball queen! But you have to love the enthusiasm and can-do spirit. “People should be excited to see me play,” she continues. “Especially my generation, because I'm hoping a lot of them will maybe see themselves in me. It doesn't mean they have to come on Survivor, but don't roll over and play dead, right? Life's too short and it's too precious, and life is what you make of it.”

And Sue has made quite a life for herself. “I had a daughter at a younger age,” she explains to the tribe. “And she's had a son at a younger age, so I'm actually a grandma. My life is around my family. That's basically what I do.”

After explaining how she is divorced, but has “been with a guy for 15 years,” Sue tells her tribemates about her daughter Chelsea. “She's type 1, juvenile diabetic. And she's the super fan.”

It turns out Survivor has played a key role in Sue’s relationship with her daughter, especially as they started going through adversity. “My daughter watched the very first episode with me. She was seven years old. Life happened, my daughter started getting sick. She ended up being diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, but at the time, we didn't know.”

However, there was one TV show that gave them comfort in those tough times. “The only thing that was a good thing around that time were the times that Jeff came into our freakin’ living room and took us away from our reality, just for a brief moment. But that was the only time we literally didn't think about our horrifying life and what was going to happen to her, because we didn't know.”

Which explains why Sue is now on the island, playing for her daughter. “That was even more important for me to do this, sort of for her, to show her. And she can live vicariously through me.”
